Not sure what you want. Are you taking your equipment from A to B or are you intent to play soccer with it.

I have a cheap bag for my Terminal Mix as nowadays I seldom fly to gigs and if so, they let me take it in the cabin…
Buy a flightcase if you plan on frequently flying or storing in a tour bus or similar.

I prefer the look of a good flightcase to a set of individual pieces stuck together on a table or something. And my flightcases are plug an play, put it down, aplug in speakers, mic, headphones and power and off I go. Since I never have to touch most connections on the gear itself, those stay reliable as new.

One word on perspex, it isn’t as lightweight as you seem to think when in a thickness that will actually offer some protection. And microfibre material on the inside is fineto protect from scratching your gear abut also offers no shock protection whatsoever.

Sturdy as equipment may have become, stll loads of delicate electronics inside.

Cheers for yr input. I agree, the look is great for a flightcase but I suppose my main issue is portability when it comes to travelling on public transport. I’m playing Fusion festival in Germany this June and although a flight case would be most practical to go in the hold (don’t think a bag/flightcase will fit as hand luggage) I will struggle when I arrive and use public transport to get to Berlin where our lift to the festival will be. Flying from Glasgow too, so many forms of public transport are involved in my general missions.
I might get a flightcase but having a sturdy case which can be fitted into a bag is most practical to get about with. Stands also make it more flexible when dealing with limited space available in DJ booths, where I know a lot of set ups that wouldn’t have room for such things.
I’d hope that the right solution to creating an inner case for a bag would make it strong enough to survive the airlines. Perspex will probably be too heavy yr right, but I’m sure that the right solution to a case solid enough to survive heavy falls/idiots carrying it for you or piss heads standing on it would be the best option for me. Ideally, a flight case within a bag but I can’t visualize that working, yet!

Cheers. This idea is mainly for portability, as I’ll be travelling long distances on public transport. It has to be as durable as possible also, for the event of a drop, kick or idiot standing on it along with having it put in the hold on gigs abroad. I don’t fly out often but have a gig in germany this year so my idea is having something equally if not as near as possible as durable as a flight case which can be transported comfortably enough to get about with. Long distances with my vinyl box have nearly broke my back, even with wheels and the shock you’d get from putting a traktor flightcase on wheels could damage components and the hard drive of my laptop.
Ideally a flight case would be great but I can’t see myself carrying it far and last year at Fusion fest we travelled 2 hours on public transport to get to the nearest location we could be for our lift to the event. Tour buses are out of the equation for me unfortunately so I get about on public transport.
My ideas are still forming though, when I have a constructed plan I’ll let you know how I get on

Thanks for your input. If your unclear about what it is I’m after here, try reading through the description again or the constructive comments of the other x2 replies to help you grasp the concept of this post. A bag is defo not sturdy enough to protect the S4 to it’s full potential. My advice is to expect the unexpected when taking expensive equipment out, you can never be too careful, otherwise I’d have carried it about in a plastic JD sports bag.

    I know what your after:
    1) flight case :
    protection your looking for
    to heavy for your situation
    2) controller bag :
    portability your looking for
    not the best protection
    3) custom built
    perspex or aluminium
    light weight
    micro fiber material
    not the best protection

I’m going to give you the answer for your situation
    Pelican Case
    Light weight flight case,

    Hey thanks for this!

I’ve not had chance to look into this yet but thought I’d thank you for suggesting these. I had a quick glimpse and it looks like a decent plan – light weight & durable, perhaps I could dappa up the box with some spray paint and make it look decent too 🙂

I’ll check these out later on if I have chance:

    Pelican Case
    Light weight flight case,
    Storm iM2700
    Pelican 1600
    Pelican 1560 lfc

    Eventually, I found a solution!
It was pricey, but I bought a Fusion workstation bag, used a garden tray big enough the neatly fit the S4,
Made some raised fittings above the edges of the tray with gaff & cardboard, then gaffed a baking tray on top to prevent pressure to the device.
It survived in the hold to Germany – success!
funny that the bag most suited for it was made by Fusion, the name of the festival I played at 🙂

    Hey Neil-D,
your project sounds really interesting, do you have some pictures already? 🙂
I read that you want to use a case in the bag, did you see the zomo s4 “flightbag” already? They used some metal frames on the corners of the Bag to protect the controller. Nice idea too and you could save some weight 😉
