KeymasterHarddisk may be the problem. I had some PC folk tell me that their PC laptop had a slow harddisk and would start skipping stuff when they record on the same disk that they play songs from.
But it is only a guess and what I heard, as I am not a PC person…February 13, 2013 at 3:58 am #36647Alex Wray
ParticipantHow old is the laptop / PC you’re running? I ran a 5-6 year old Dell (finally got rid of it) and even with a cooling pad, after about 3 hours of so you would start hearing skips and stutters. If your PC / laptop is kinda old, and money is tight, try upgrading the RAM. That might help

Participantit’s barely 2 years old. a laptop. HP 2000
and theres still
319 of 442 gig in local disk (c:)
2.11 of 19.4 gig in recovery (d:)
1.07 of 3.95 gig in hp tools (e:)
None of them are red barring
The recovery disk looks like it could be close to red barring though..February 13, 2013 at 4:36 am #36651DJcRave

ParticipantWell you have enough physical hard drive space, definitely, but the RAM is a different thing. it should be under
Control Panel > System > View RAM and processor speed (or something like that)
If your processor is under 2 GHz, and / or your RAM is less than 2 GBs, (even being barely over that, like 2.2 GHz could cause problems after a couple of hours of really hard mixing with lots of effects (almost burned out an old laptop doing that, but that’s a different story =P)) than that might be causing the problem. If both are 2.5 GHz / GBs or better, then it probably something else

Memberlast time a “checkdisk” for errors was performed on your laptop?
last time “defragment” of hard disk was performed on your laptop?February 13, 2013 at 4:50 pm #36689Alex Wray
ParticipantYeah, as far as I can tell, your processor is not powerful enough. I tried running a 1.66 Ghz laptop and all I got was distortion. You can try softcore’s suggestions, but Traktor has a requirement of a 2 Ghz processor

Participant@Softcore ummmm i cant put a date but 4+ months(that i remember) and i dont believe i’ve ever done a defragment.

ParticipantAlso, do you think if I ran Traktor through Pioneer CDJ 850s using the HID mode on the CDJs, I would still have a problem?Recently if I do too much, add effects, etc.. sometimes even just use the crossfader, the music will just lag like there’s no tomorrow. I’ve actually been thinking about cashing out on using laptops/controllers and going straight CDJs.

ParticipantToo start with the processor is just under the requirements for pro speed so this maybe why your recordings are sounding distorted and not true quality, I would invest in a better spec lappy as its a better way forward but thats my opinion. Your ram is fine for any Djing software but the lack of speed within the Processor means that its not got the power to push through power intensive applications like djing software..

ParticipantHow many processes are running on you system? Start the task manager and see what’s running turn off anti virus, browser and any other program’s that are not needed.
Gamebooster is a free program that will turn off program’s automatically

ParticipantAlso, if the laptop you are using comes in different hardware configurations, you might want to see about the possibility of swapping processors. It would improve performance for cheaper than another laptop

ParticipantI have ran Vdj on a laptop with lower spec than yours (but 3gb ram) and never had issues with recording or anything else. is your pc maybe loaded with bloatware/other software running in background? could there be a virus/malware? Do you have the option to try recording on an external hard drive? If it was working fine before i would do the following:
1.Boot in safemode with networking and download the free malwarebytes anti-malware and have it run a full check
2.Delete anything unwanted and run checkdisc and defrag as softcore said
3.If you re good with computers try and back up everything and do a system restore to a time when traktor could record properly.
4.Or again if you re good with computers try to bring back the laptop to its factory default mode (newer laptops usually keep a partition for that use as backup). or even better, install a fresh copy of windows which will not include all the bloatware that came with the laptop in the first place (which is what i have done to all of my machines, usually after a year of purchase).I believe that if traktor was working fine before you will not have to reach as far as step four. Then again, I would definitely recommend a laptop just for djing purposes. Especially in your case where the processor is just on the minimum requirements.

ParticipantYeah, I dont plan on buying a new laptop anytime soon. I’m tight on money right now.
@tommy; theres 95 processes running
@red eye; yeah ive ran vdj on here also before i got traktor, no problems. even when i first got traktor i had no problems.
it doesnt lag every single time i record or mix live but it has gotten more consistent as time goes on.
I actually played on CDJs for the first time thursday and i really liked it. it was a challenge with no wave forms, lol.
but im actually gonna start using the CDJs when i can in a club setting or if another person would let me borrow theres and ill just use traktor at private parties, smaller venues. -
