ParticipantHey man I’m in the same boat as you as I’m just learning too, It sounds quite good tbh nothing sounds out of place and if I was in a bar/club and you were playing that set it doesnt sound like you were a beginner at all good job! Feel free to check my mix out too! https://soundcloud.com/shaun-pearcey/first-mashup-indeep-last-night

ParticipantThanks shaun, means alot man. yea i checked out ur mix. Good funky beat goin there. The volume kinda dipped abit during the transition so maybe a little more concentration on the fader positions when ur mixing in the new track. Try and get a few more transitions in your next upload but all in all good job. What set up are you using?

Member@ Dec MG,
Your set rocked man!!! Awesome stuff! I loved the break at 11:20 and the following drop at 11:33..it really took it up a notch and it was right at the middle of the set! Perfect timing! Then you played Intro by XX and I went nuts! That is one of my favorite tracks (both the original and the Sander Van Doorn mix)! Very clean and smooth transitions as well. Keep up the good work! I look forward to hearing more mixes!
@ Shaun,
I’m going to check out your mix in a min!

Member@ Shaun,
I liked the mix man! I LOVE the funky disco grooves and when the crowd is right.. I always try to work it into my sets. I would agree with Dec MG about the dip in audio during the transition though. It didn’t sound bad mind you (I’ve heard some pretty train wreck transitions and this was not one) but when the audio drops down low like that and it’s not a break it disrupts the flow of the mix a bit. But otherwise it was a very enjoyable mix! Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff! 🙂

ParticipantThanks for the feedback guys, Its funny you mention the dip in volume I do hear it now after a second listen. I went for a walk today and then came home set my gear up and hey presto I could beat match without the sync buttons it sounds weird as before I had to use the sync buttons but now a day after needing them its come to me in the mind aha! I use a Hercules MP3 E2 controller, great for learning on but now I’m getting this djing malarkey more I will probs need to up scale after my first few gigs.. With a laptop on gigs (when I start getting them) but atm I’m using my desktop to perfect things then will be switching to my lappy! I use Virtual DJ Pro (free trial) Still need to invest in that but I should be able to get a few gigs in with the license but I cant get a grips of Traktor or Serato Intro.. Plus my Controller doesnt work on both LE versions :/
Thanks for listening though, I will take all your feedback on board and now I can sort of beat match manually I will try make a longer better mix!

ParticipantMedik, you have made my day buddy. Really appreciate the feedback guys. Nice comments like that only make you want to get better. I can imagine how seeing a crowd react live in front of you could become extremely addictive. 🙂

MemberFor me… there is no greater feeling then having a packed dance floor and a crowd reacting to what YOU are playing! The amount of raw energy from that is very addictive!

ParticipantJust created a new mix, but apparently its against Copyright so how can I sort this so I can upload it?
January 25, 2013 at 1:15 pm #35683J-Zed
ParticipantNice set man, I’m not usually into this style but I’ve quite enjoyed it except it ended far too soon!
Keep it up man!January 25, 2013 at 1:25 pm #35685Bojaq
Participant@ Shaun
If you’re uploading to soundcloud this is a common problem. Some record labels dont allow their music to be used in this way and because soundcloud allows users to download other users sounds it creates a problem, thats why ur sound is always analysed before its allowed to be posted incase theres some copyright issues. It keeps soundcloud within the parameters of production/copyright laws but its a pain in the ass for people like us. Set yourself up a mixcloud account and make sure you are able to convert your .wav files to mp3 as i think they only allow mp3 file uploadsJanuary 25, 2013 at 3:59 pm #35695Shaun Pearcey

MemberHey Shaun, good stuff mate! I didn’t hear any audio dips and the transitions seemed to go pretty smooth. To be honest I don’t think I’d be able to DJ that kind of music so props to that! You already mentioned you were a bit effects heavy, maybe just lower the volume a bit on that particular effect? You seem to be fond of the flanger (which is a very popular effect) but maybe just reduce the volume of the flanger a bit so it doesnt take over the track that is currently playing. Otherwise great job man!

ParticipantThanks Medik, I think I could lower the volume during the flanger thats a cracking idea! I’m feeling like im getting better every day more and more practise is the key to this! Glad you liked it more coming in the coming days!

MemberExactly! Try to work on it daily.. even if it’s only for ten minutes or so. Another thing that might help is to burn all your recorded mixes onto a CD. Then take that with you everywhere and listen to it in the car, or at work/ school if possible. The more you listen to your mix, the more things will pop out that you might want to improve on. Jot your notes down and the next time you get home, try re-recording your set with your improvements.

ParticipantYeah good idea, I will stick it on the phone and cd to put in the car sounds good idea, so did the transitions sound alright then? Need to get my full pro version of VDJ and my sound setup then i can hit the pubs/clubs for gigs!
