First of all: I think that 70-80% of the DJs did never learn scratching.
There are some genres (like hip hop) where this is the other way around, where like 80% of hip hop DJs can scratch, at least a little.

I dislike “fake scratching” with sound points etc. so I never tried it. If you are going that way you do not need to learn it, just load a bank full of scratch samples, sync and play them…

Cannot comment on the last one, since I DJ hip hop also I learned it because I wanted to.

I ment no disrespect to hip hop DJs around the world,i have major respect for every successful DJ out there.I’m just right now banging my head about wetther to bother learning it or not cause chances are i might get asked to do hip hop at some point in my life,to spite favoring electronic genres.I’m just trying to figure a way around it for me,and as far as samples go,i’m not a big fan of just playing samples,if i have to use a sample i’d rather use it in some more creative way.

The thing is: If you do not feel hip hop, just scratching wont make you a hip hop DJ.
A hip hop DJ needs to know their history and how to blend the songs more than anything.
I rather listen to a good “blend DJ” that does nothing else than to blend songs that match the theme, than to see a good scratch routine to uselessly tucked together hip hop songs.

So I would say: Forget scratching and invest the time into learning hip hop history and how to make up hip hop sets.

Yeah, honestly i think i’ll stick to what i know then and what i’ve been doing, which is electronic dance music and when someone asks me if i could do hip hop i’ll jus say no.Cause at this point i’m not very interested in hip hop personally plus it’d be too much for my head to have to learn more,at least at this time.
