KeymasterFirst ask yourself: What would you expect to do with such a setup and what do you expect from Traktor?
Are you as confident in your basic DJ abilities that you think you can use the remix decks to full potential or would a 50 bucks akai midi pad suffice that is mapped to the Serato SP-6?January 18, 2013 at 10:28 am #35273W.I.L.
Membergood question ! My basic skills are sweet beatmixing/key mixing , i started back when anologue ruled and i mixed old progressive house and if you didnt know your music it sounde like shite so you relied on your ears 🙂
i wanted traktor early on , because of what it can do . the reason i didnt is my mates all had serato based controllers and just never got round to it . i looked at the akai midi controller but i thought the f1 has more control over the sounds as more is pre loaded and not so much on the fly .
Other than that im winging it ! hahahaJanuary 18, 2013 at 10:46 am #35274Terry_42
KeymasterWell this is the problem. Of course the F1 will give you controll over the remix decks with A LOT of features.
But if you do not really know how to use them, or if you will use them at all, then you will have a very expensive single purpose tool that will not get used.
So unless you have used the SP-6 in Serato to its full potential and then say “I need more” and have an idea what you want to do with remix decks… you do not need them.
Besides the remix decks there is nothing that Serato DJ cannot do (sometimes a lot more easy) than Traktor. And if you have the SX you should first also use loop/roll, the slicer etc. for remixing to their full potential. So winging it can be really expensive and useless, if you do not know what to expect.

ParticipantMy old setup was S2+F1. Well after some thinking process I’ve replaced the S2 with DDJ-SX and I did that after I found out that there is a fully working excelent traktor mapping for the ddj-sx.
Ive used traktor since day 1 so it’s not that easy to switch to serato and to be honest Ive tested serato intro (I know it was long time ago) and I was impressed.
So the ddj-sx is running on traktor together with the f1 without any problem and almost all the tricks you have in serato for the ddj-sx is fully mapped in traktor, after all it’s a midi controller and you can find almost everything in traktor that needed.
1 thing I dislike in f1 since I’ve got the ddj-sx…..The fact that F1 doesnt have so very nice velocity pads as the ddj, that would be totally awesome!January 19, 2013 at 5:56 am #35312W.I.L.
MemberCheers Eric , what djing do you do ? just a personal thing or paid gig ?
And Mr Terry , do you know of a ok controller that has similar features of the f1 ? ie faders , extra buttons for say sync and filters ?

KeymasterXone K2, Akai LPD series,…. just go to a DJ store. There are numerous midi pads with totally different functions.

ParticipantWhile you can map the pads/knobs to Traktor, I am pretty sure you will lose the tight integration on the Jogs…

Yes, you are correct.
The jogs are the negative thing in this. If you turn off vinyl mode, stop the deck and try to use the jog wheel to move in the track….well you gonna see huge lag on the jog. With vinyl mode turned on this dissapear for sure.
Ofc you never ever gonna have such a precision jog wheel integration like on S2/S4 in traktor.
Since I’m not a scratch dj, I can live with this limitation.
But it’s different for everyonePs: This is only for Traktor. In Serato the jogs works like a charm!

MemberThanks guys . ive been looking at the xone k2 just because of the amount of control over the sample perameters in the sp6 . hopefully someone has mapped this to itch which im using at the moment ( but soon to be SDJ ) or how hard is it to map .
My other problem is im an hour out of sydney and the local music shops dont cater for the electronic element like its a dirty word or something ! so i really do rely on forums and my own research to find info ( as trivial as the question is since im trying to learn as much as possible quickly ) .
Ive been mucking around with sp6 player a bit lately and do find it a pain to use the lap top so the more control from an exterrnal controller the better . thanks again 🙂

Memberoh yeah the other bonus is the ddj-sx (when i get it ) that if i find SDJ is not what i want there is traktor . plenty of options !
