Mixed in key I have found to be really great, however I can’t comment on iPad integration. All the keys show up in iTunes, so I expect it will be fine

If you analyze toe files of your iTunes library and add the key information to the “comments” field (see MixedInKey manual) then you should be able to see them also on the iPad.
I found mixed in key to be very accurate and use it for a long time.

Thanks for the feed back gets, I suppose it’s just a case of analysing my tunes in iTunes and then that information will transfer over to the iPad when I sync it,

    Perfect I’ll get it downloaded

Ibrahams Key Finder is a free alternative if you want to save cash. Just google search for it. I have found that it does pretty much the same job as MIK but it may require that you analyze and tag your music before transferring to your iPad. Mixing in musical key can create some awesome transitions and quite often has helped me find songs that can be played side by side or mashed up.

I love MIK. I find it really useful in matching tracks. I’m not sure how it works with the iPad. But I could imagine it should integrate well with iTunes like it does on my MBP. I don’t understand it’s Energy score. It should have been out of 5 not 10. The difference between a 6 and a 7 can be so slim it means nothing.

Mixed in Key is very much worth the money.

Does Mixed in Key edit the ID3 tag of the file itself?

I was considering picking up Platinum Notes until I realized that it does not edit the mp3 itself, but rather applies the algorithms and creates a new file. There wouldn’t be any quality loss if you outputted as a .wav, but I’m not looking to triple the file size of my current library.

MIK edits the ID3 tags on the file. And it’s configurable within the preferences.

I know that about PN. So I create a folder on my desktop for the new file, delete the old one from my library, and import the PN file into iTunes. It’s a pain in the a@@. But I only do it on files I really need.

But doesn’t Djay give you the key when you analyze your tracks with it? I know it does on the mac version.

The iOS version doesn’t – at least not yet.
