I have found myself not liking this “in between” the remix decks do.
So I either play with little F/X and rarely a sample from the sample player (Serato DJ), or go full out and play a song from scratch with Maschine.
The transitioning from Maschine to a “normal Song” again is not easy, but you can train it…

It does feel awkward, though I could see this thing being a godsend for mashups. Right now it seems it has the largest potential as a scratch bank, and maybe a way to conviniently set dj name drops whenever I feel like.

I’m using it as a drum machine when I get bored and there is a break In a song, enjoy making my own beats, and also for filling long breaks I like, but might clear the dance floor, I just make sure I capture a loop from the intro, and then set it going to keep the beat, allows me to use weird effects on vocals, but still keep a solid beat going.

To be honest I don’t use it massively, but even me drumming a beat on it seems to get a lot of attention from the crowd, maybe just cos they see me doing something.

The f1 isn’t really velocity sensitive though, but I suppose if you aren’t going finger of death with it it wouldn’t be too big of a deal. Also, I am looking for dance-floor applications of it, I don’t really feel as if the Moldover/Shiftee videos are very club viable….

Im going ot bring it for the first time to my gig on new years. I’ve had it for a couple months now and started getting comfortabel using it. I like to drop different basslines, vocals, one shorts, hi hats etc; Just a smal variation like that can change the whole energy of the track played. I find its cause when mixing betweeen tracks as well as it keeps a consistent flow going.

I’ve basically created my own remix sets of some of my favourite tracks and start using those in my sets. I feel like I have only scratched the surface of its potential.

I could definitely see using it to help in transitioning; up until this point it’s been a scratch sample for me. I’ve been contemplating writing 8 or 16 bar progressions in logic, turning them into a remix set, and then attempting to use it like a maschine, but I haven’t been adventerous enough yet. It seems like such a powerful piece of gear, but it also appears to come with a learning curve =)

I would like to start to use it to do some live mash ups cause i think its the perfect controller to do so as well. I find the build of it is so simple but like NietzSKY said its pretty powerful. Cause its not worrying about 2-4 songs playing on a deck…you have a shit load of samples at your disposal and if your using both remix decks theres alot to think about lol….so I guess start off with just a couple samples and build up

I actually found doing mashups more easy in maschine as you can actually “cut and edit” songs directly in maschine and do not need to prepare it in another software. However the workflow for it is not an easy one to learn, beware this is nooooot easy and is still time consuming, so I seldom do it.

funny thing is I’m getting ready to add a mk2 micro to my kit; I wonder if I’m going a bit overboard with gear purchases =P

I find the F1, althought i dont own one but have used one a bit…a bit of a useless tool when it comes to DJing. Until producers actually sell their sample packs ( i doubt this will happen) then the F1 is just another producer tool that is trying to be implimented with DJing. IMO the F1 is just another Midi controller that has a very select market.

@ Hee Won Jung…I kind of agree with that as well. I think part of the fun of the F1 is making your own samples, or taking loops from your fav. tracks and makeing a remix pack out of that…I like to do this but if your someone that doesn’t than it could pose issues.

I took the f1 to my gig on new years for the first time. I used it only a couple times to be honest. I was concentrating on so many other things, and finding the right sample(s) to play was the last thing on my mind (had my maschine I was using as well). So I definitely need more practice with it alongside my other gear.
