Push is not even available yet… Few have tried it. Anyway, if you go with Live Push might be a good solution as it is as integrated to Live as you can get. If you operate outside Ableton Live then Maschine is the obvious solution.

Anyway, many of us are just now confused-angered-annoyed about all the pricing mistakes Ableton has managed to do the last days at their shop web site, especially angering long term users with the constantly shifting upgrade prices…

Maschine is a great piece of kit coupled with a great software – but it is not a full fledged DAW – what this means is that maybe it will help you to jot down some basic musical ideas-loops, but you would still need a DAW to be able to create a complete dance music track. Ableton Live – Push or not, I wouldnt rely solely on Maschine to make music! 😉

I personally would reccomend start using the DAW of your choice (seem slike its going to be Ableton Live) with your mouse and keyboard just to get a feel of the software. After a while, you ‘ll start realising what it is you want your DAW controller to be able to do so you will form a better opinion on what might suit you best!

However Maschine interacts perfectly with Logic if that workflow floats your boat…

Yes, that is definitely sth I’ve been thinking about. Logic Pro is only 150,- as compared to 270,- for Ableton standard (EDU). If I’d use Maschine to build loops (I’m most interested in deep & tech house, which is heavily loop based) and then only finish the tracks in Logic, that might be really cool. Then again, if I would choose to start with mouse producing and “only” a DAW, then I’d probably pick Ableton, because it makes more sense to me regarding the whole creation of a song compared to Logic’s workflow.

What attracts me about Maschine is the feeling, that I can more “ease into” the ehole production thing and just have fun. It seens to be more approachable to get some decent sounding loops and samples going, I can then incorporate into my DJing, and with time look more into making whole songs.

With a full DAW (Logic or Ableton, Push or not) it’s more like jumping into the deep end right away and I don’t wanna get frustrated, I’m not always the most patient guy ^^

    That make sense?

    I think I’m going for Maschine…

Btw thanks so much for your comments! I love these forum!!

Yes the Ableton Live pricing is pretty steep, I jumped in back in 2.1 days and even the upgrades are pretty steep compared with other tools. And I must confess that Live 9 has not that many new interesting features. So you could go really far with Logic, a lot of producers are using Logic and there’s plenty of YouTube videos and tutorials available. And you could do very much similar loop-based productions in Logic as with Live and where you have far better audio and midi editing tools available in Logic. IMHO.

I’d prefer Logic too, if we are talking about DAWs – I thought the question was if you can use Maschine alone for music production – hence my first answer.

Thanks guys! Bought a Maschine yesterday and since I finally got my MBP back this morning (re-equipped with a High Res display) I’m in the process of installing everything right now 🙂

As I’ve been reading your responses and also related topics all over the internet, I came to the conclusion that I (and many others like me) sometimes forget the most important part when looking for the “best kit”, best this, best that… It should be about what is FUN! I think Maschine is the way to go for me to have fun with a little creativity. Should the need arise at some future point for a full DAW I can still decide whether to go with Live or Logic 🙂

Right now I’m stoked to get started and playing!

Btw check this article out, seems like NI have a lot planned for the next Maschine SW update!

Working my way through the tutorial vids and the 166page “quick start manual” and having great fun with Maschine so far! Exactly what I wanted, thanks for the help guys! 🙂
