As a rule of thumb…i never update to the latest Windows OS until SP2 has been released…there are always waayy too many bugs with new OS.

Why would you need a touch screen monitor for your DJing? would you bring it out with you? The reasons why you want something like that will directly impact if you need it or not.

If you are looking for something to be able to control a lot more of your DJing interface…i suggest getting the Lemur OS if you have the money for the ipad.

    Cheers for the reply.

The main thing with the touch screen is just that I’ve been using multiple screens for radio work I do and it is so handy to have ident/jingle banks on one screen whilst controlling the music on another. I’d like to move up to being able to adapt to using touch screens for this purpose and I suppose I could just as well begin to use it in my gigs in future also…..Obviously I’m not the most expert person technologically, so I’m not quite sure how this would work using a program such as VDJ in any case but it definitely appeals to me.

On the ipad thing, I have worked with windows for so long that crossing over to a Mac device scares me a little which is why I would be apprehensive on that rather than something like the Dell (Although Windows 8 would probably be like learning a new system also at this time!)

I’m waiting a year before going into Windows 8. I did try a beta and found it interesting, but I’d rather wait until Traktor has updates and fixes for any potential problems with Win 8.

Plus I’m still a little miffed Lenovo abandoned the Android Thinkpad Tablet I had…only been out a year. So I’m reluctant to invest in anything (laptop or tablet) for a while until the smoke clears and we know if Windows 8 is worth it or if we’re going to hang on to 7 and move to Windows 9 down the road.

I dont really reccomend going to a touch screen for live shows…and here is my thinking…

1- Another Piece of expensive equipment that you have to carry around thats not so portable…
2 – DJ booths are already cramped as hell already
3 – Touch Screens are really not more intuitive than actual Buttons and Knobs, Bigger Chance of making mistakes on a touch screen
4 – What exactly would you want to control with it that you couldnt control with an additional controller?
5 – Ipads dont really have a learning curve. Especially with Lemur on the OS.

IMO Windows 8 wont be really useable for at least another 6-8 months. I have read that Windows 8 is horrible for gamers…and that makes me feel that it will be bad for us DJs as well. Windows 7 is actually pretty dang stable now…and it does everything i need for DJing…so if it aint broke why fix it?

Thanks again for the replies guys (I’m a poet & I didn’t know it!)

My Inspiron keeps crashing on me so I really am gonna have to buy a laptop soon so I guess I’m just gonna try and get a Windows 7 version and update to 8 if I have to later on going on your advice.

I’ll be getting a monitor in any case as I’ll use it as a spare tv rather than a new tv so just thinking I may as well get that Dell touch screen while I’m spending the money, and if it comes in handy than it’s a bonus.
