    Voice drop over a scratch performance. Pretty much the same as many DJs use:
    1. Pick a song you like which has big instrumental parts or take the instrumental version of it.
    2. Perform a routine on that song (scratch routing, controllerist routine,… whatever you can pull off and want to show off) for about 30s (record it)
    3. But some voiceovers and F/X over your 30s performance
    4. master the whole thing
    -> Custom Drop

    interesting bit, made me think intros for hip hop vs. house DJs. For the former, it’s a must–agreed (KL thanks for sharing that shortee soundcloud set–I do think I’m madly in love… chick djs, brrrrrrrr).

    But what about for the latter? you hear a house set on the radio, there’s gotta be a pro intro, true. I add the occasional one to my mix set. On the other hand, perhaps intros ought to be left to the top DJs, let the newbie DJ demonstrate his skills through his mix..

    (because a nobody DJ doesn’t really need an intro, just show your work)

    and still.. intros do sound cool, make people notice perhaps.

    Had mine done by a low-budget local production company, and it’s not great. Then I figured: I’ve got Garage Band, I’ve got Traktor. I should be able to cobble something together. put an ad up for a black female (accompanied if under 18 😉 to come and record a couple sentences for 20 euros, and them fools at the ad company pulled it because they figured I was tryna get fresh…

    shrugs… what’s a dj to do
