Uh, do you want to play the digital files through controller jogs or have you though of using DVS? Either way, I’m gonna give few equips to check out. I’m assuming here you don’t want to spend more on controller/mixer than what SX2 costs.

Denon MC7000: It is much like SX2, has few differences here and there and it’s also capable for DVS. It’s little cheaper than SX2 and you get the famous Denon DJ build quality. Imho better (and cheaper) option than SX2

Numark NS6II: Now this is a brand new controller. In my knowledge it’s not capable for DVS but it can run vinyl players through channels 3 and 4. NS6II is much different from MC7000 and SX2. It’s missing a lot extra features that those two has (seems like you’re not into too much to them anyways) but it has some features that they don’t have like filter roll and filter FX. And those jogs are really sexy and handy showing important data of the playing track like BPM. And this is also 200-300€ chapter than MC7000 and SX2.

Reloop RMX-90 DVS: Well at the price point of SX2 this is a really good looking mixer. It’s DVS ready so your option to play digital files through this would be using DVS system. But then again, you say you have 2 turntables and you don’t need much ‘extras’ on the equipment so from mixers even the cheap Akai AMX (a bit over 200€) might do the thing. It’s capable for DVS and has dedicated filter knobs, ha!

Take a look at the A&H 43C (no onboard FX) or A&H DB2 (onboard FX).

If your not looking to get into utilizing features like slicer, samples, etc then you’ll be fine with either but you have the option of adding an accessory controller like the K1 (Serato supported) or K2 (not Serato supported but more features) or something like the Pioneer SP1 with the 43C if you want that extra layer of control.

I prefer a mixer with turntables over using a controller in DVS mode IMHO maybe because it feels more natural and the controls just feel better spaced out in a familiar layout.

I’d recommend going to a local store and asking them to hook up a controller to a turntable in DVS mode to see how that feels for you.

@5miiks – thanks for this useful reply. Some definite things for me to check out. I’ve not tried DVS but thanks for the suggestion. As @aaron_nicdao says – I should probably head to a local DJ store and have a play about with DVS.

@aaron_nicdao – cheers for your suggestions on the Allen & Heath gear too. Will check that out as well.

Once I’ve done a little online research then I think I’ll head to a DJ store and see what kit I can test out.

    Much appreciated.

I’d have a look at the Denon MC6000 mk2. Serato and DVS support and full 4-channel standalone support. So use it as a regular mixer if you want to have a go at just the TTs, or use regular vinyl, DVS and digital in the mix.

It’s nice and compact (19″) and built like the proverbial tank.
