Just starting out? You should be fine with the RB. One of the bars I play at just installed a SB2 as their house system and I’ve been rather impressed with the little thing. That all said, the Denon is rock solid and would provide years of good service – and has a full suite of output connections (something the entry level Pioneer controllers lack). For house parties that may not be as important, but sooner or later you are going to want to connect to a PA system, and at that point XLR and a separate booth channel comes in very handy.

Of course, a more basic issue is software – these controllers use different platforms. So picking the software you want to use will help narrow down your controller choices.

    Good luck!

Denon makes good gear. Something to keep in mind is that no matter what you use if it’s not a 1200 you’ll get hated on by old people, ignorant people, other DJs, whatever. No matter how good you are, there will be haters. I like controllers, and even just a soundcard and laptop keyboard-only, but I actively mix on turntables, controllers, CDJs and anything else I can get my hands on so I’m never bothered by critics. The MC4000 is one of the better controllers money can buy so definitely start with that and get as much experience as you can. Hopefully you young people can finally dispell all the laptop DJ hate.

Get whichever controller you like better but yes the pioneer rb is fine for beginner and professional gigs you can dj shows with an entry level controller , if im not mistaken the ddj-rb brings the full version software included which is a nice plus for an entry level price , mostly you could worry more about getting good headphones more than getting a high end controller

I’m just worried about its lack of outputs being a problem for the future, but then again you can’t argue with the value of the rb.

I DJed a gig with an MC2000 as my MCX was lost in airport and came to the hotel a day late :O

I was once invited to a birthday party as a guest, and due to a muck-up by the DJ whose laptop decided it was time for a software upgrade and basically told Serato to “go f*ck yourself”, I ended up DJ’ing that party from my iPhone using the djay app. It turned out to be some of the most fun I’ve had in DJing a house party in years, especially when a bunch of twenty-something yr old kids throw words like “awesome”, “hero” and “savour” at you. They seemed to like the music too! My point is, forget the gear, if you’re confident in your abilities, gear is (almost totally) irrelevant.

Cool story:D Think i will go with the RB and learn on that. My friend let me borrow his Idj live II for a while, which is enough.
