I’d say def no to sharing, for me my music library is what makes me unique as a DJ,

Also whats exciting about doing a back to back with another DJ is you don’t know what they are going to bring to the table – if its your collection you loose that wild card factor of b2b playing.

Lastly its so easy to DL so much material for free, theres no excuse for your friend to use another DJ’s library.. I’d just tell him he better get busy on Soundcloud and bandcamp so much available for free.. thats after all what a DJ does compile their own database of sound.

Lastly there are all the ethics about sharing music even if you have paid for it or it has been sent to you personally, I’d argue thats its not really yours to share with other djs anyway.

I’m glad you agree and I’m not just being selfish. Most of my library is commerciallly available but I have a few things on there I’ve ripped from my vinyl collection, or producers I’ve approached on SoundCloud and been sent things that aren’t otherwise available. Also lots of loops, intros and acapellas I’ve created or chopped up myself.

To add another element, we are putting on our own event in two weeks where we will be playing opposite rooms, so will be in a sort of competition with each other, and if he has Shazam’d or otherwise noted my songs, it will increase the risk of us playing the same songs in the different rooms.

I’m hoping the venue change their mind now so I don’t have to make excuses!

Yeah a djs music is his secrect weapon. Anybody can learn to use the equipment but it’s your choice of songs and the way you bring them together that makes a dj unique.

Never share your library and a real DJ would never ask you to. They may ask what song and what version you are playing, but never to share the music itself.
