Rookie Problem

I don’t know the specific model you have, but generally on a wireless mic the RF light is a good thing – it indicated that the base is getting the signal.

If you can see the signal on your mixer, but not hear anything, then then problem isn’t your wireless mic gear, it’s the mixer. The fact your mics work when connected directly to the speakers also leads me to a problem with your mixer.

Start simple – check the connections, then check the settings, then go from there.

While I normally agree with Terry (and do as to the general quality issues with low-end gear), since you said you are getting a signal (sound) when you plug in directly to your speakers (tell us your brand/type please and how you connect them, what kind of cable, what input as in mic/line), that suggests that the mics are working as they are supposed to, but something else is going wrong.

Since you haven’t told us what you are inputting the mics into (mixer, controller, what channels, what connectors/cables), it is very hard to help you troubleshoot the issue. So if you can come back to us with that info we may be able to help you a bit better.

Shure and Sennheiser on the high(er) end, alternatives are AKG and I have had some good experience with Samson (believe it or not). Lewitt is definitely on the up and up. Line 6. In short, lots of decent to very good systems around. I prefer the systems with one receiver per mic (usually half 19″ size so you can fit two next to each other in a 19″ rack/case should you so choose), but clearly you can opt for 2 or even 4 channel receivers.

Better to spend good money on 1 mic than the same money on two wireless mics. You do Karaoke, so I can see how you would need (at least) 2 mics. Opt for the budget end of the big brands if you need to control your spending, they will usually offer less features (like no fancy displays, no automatic tuning and perhaps less channels to choose from), but will still offer a good quality RF and audio signal is my experience.

Wireless being a lot trickier to get right than wired, I tend to stay away from the low(er) end brands, to include the likes of Behringer, DAP, American DJ.
