I have etymotics (not the cheap general ones) they make some especially for music and musicians. You can easily wear them under DJ cans and they do not bother me at all. They sit so nicely, if not for the “pull” thingy they would be totally invisible.
Sure they are about 400 bucks, but well invested money.

I use Alpine custom molded, cheaper (around 120 euro). Only available in (part of) Europe though.

Comfort is great, use them with cans. No pull thingy on them, it’s a trick but then you can get them out easily.

As they are custom molded and ears change constantly, it does pay to pay attention to the fit and replace when necessary (I got my second pair about 2 1/2 year after the first one).

I think I have -25 or even -29dB damping. Pretty high and effective. Several brands will let you swap out the filters yourself so you are more flexible. Or if you have to use two different ones (my son for example has lighter damping for when he plays with his marching band and heavier for festival visits) it might be easier to just get two pair.

I know this is quite the late reply, but I finally got my new plugs in the mail. I had a custom mold done with a local audiologist, and we sent them off to ACS. I chose them for several reasons, one in particular that the review of them done by DDJT seemed convincing. http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/10/review-video-acs-pro17-custom-fit-hearing-protectors/.

I decided to go with the 26dB filters at the recommendation of the ACS representative since I already have tinnitus. I had the opportunity to test them out at a gig, and I can say they definitely live up to the quality they are said to have. They fit very comfy, and the very interesting part was that with very little volume they still kind of felt like normal ear plugs, though conversations were maybe a bit more understandable, but it was at the higher volumes I could really notice how they felt like they were still protecting my hearing but allowing a very rich and full sound to come through. It’s somewhat difficult to describe, but it felt like I was almost just listening to music clearly on my speakers at home at a not too loud of a volume. I really recommend people looking into these since I think they could be a very worthwhile investment since they really do help but still allow for one to have an enjoyable experience.
