Hello! Interesting Setup. If you don’t mind answering a question or two, I’d like to try to help you.

(Also, yeah people may hate on Gemini and have valid points but those G4V & G2V are actually nice controllers if you use something other than Serato, which irks me that they won’t support them but that’s for later)

What’s the deal with your unbalanced master outs going into one port? Is it so that way you can route your audio out to the 2.1 speakers you’re using?

Also, are you using the Traktor Mapping from the gemini website, a community Mapping from somewhere, or was this something Traktor had in there for you to choose?

You are probably too far away for me, so I’ll pass on the paid job offer LOL.

Gemini is not on our list of controllers for starters, for a reason. Even if in this case support is lacking as a result of the biggest snow storm in history hitting the upper east coast, the general consensus of Gemini support is, shall we say, less than could be?

But, you’ve got it (tip: come to DDJT forums BEFORE you buy something šŸ˜€ ) and it should work. Traktor is by far the worst of the two programs you are using when it comes to settings and such. The thing that pops out of me immediately is that in VDJ you are using external mixer, I am not quite sure this is the right setting. I would think with this controller that you’d have to set it to INTERNAL mixer.

External mixer assumes you are sending two channels of audio to the controller where it is then treated as regular audio input. This is a setting you’d pick if you were also hooking up external devices that you’d want to mix as well.
Internal mixer will send the master out from the software to the master out connectors of the controller and into the speakers. If you hit cue for a deck, the software will send the cue signal to your headphone connector on the controller and into your cans. If you hit all 4 cues, it will send all 4 signals to your headphone.

Effectively what the controller does is control all knobs/faders in the software by midi, all mixing is done INSIDE the software and then the result (one master stereo signal and one cue stereo signal) is sent back to the controller.

Unfortunately I don’t know VDJ that well and don’t have access to it, so can’t check for you. But I am relatively certain that external mixer will give the wrong results.

Hopefully one of our (many) VDJ users can shed some light on the exact settings. Don’t despair, serious help is on the way.

@Titan: I’m new to this so I have no idea what I am doing lol.

I went to Guitar Center and told them I had PC speakers and was trying to get the PC speakers to plug into the back of my controller, they pointed me in the direction of the adaptors to buy and I kind of just set it up this way on my own and it looked right. I have tried about 5 different mappings for this device, official and community oriented.

Here is a video of what is going on if it helps at all

the only thing i didnt show in the video is the speakers but they are indeed turned on and volume turned full blast

    @DJ Vintage

thanks, I was told on another forum my VDJ settings were wrong, the issue is that their config setup isnt straight forward at all. Geminis Guide says “plug controller into PC, open software, choose ‘G4V’ as midi in and midi out”

thats how simple minded the writer of the Gemini guide is

The only way I think to setup VDJ is through their advanced config menu but I have basically 0 idea how to do that.

I’m on the verge of returning this to Amazon, which I dont want to do because the next best controller is $200 out of my budget and the reviews for this on Amazon were actually really solid for a newbie based controller and its built well compared to some of the plastic made Toys R Us quality built mixers I have messed with at Guitar Center in the past.

I’m willing to just pay someone to skype into a call with me and walk me through this thing, I dont really want to return this. I actually took my setup to Guitar Center and tried hooking up their pro audio speakers to the controller and nothing.

So at this point it is one of two things

    1) I am truly a special level idiot newbie and have no idea how the setup is supposed to be

    or

    2) I have a dysfunctional unit

Again, the pictures indicate that something is going on.

Answer me this please: where you (when taking these pictures) actually playing 4 decks simultaneously? That is what it looks like because all 4 channel level meters are lit. What wonders me is that the signals on the left (2/4) seem to be the same and the signals on the right (1/3) seem to be the same. That seems really odd, thus further leading me to believe that there is some kind of setting wrong.

Whoever, I haven’t used Traktor in ages and don’t use VDJ, so I can’t open the software and check for you. Also I would gladly help you over Skype (for free), but the same is true. I don’t know my way around Traktor and especially VDJ well enough anymore to think I can be really effective. Would be easier for someone with the exact same controller/software combination.

I am not saying the unit can’t be defective, but my money is still on settings.

Hey Josh! Believe me I can understand your frustration!!!

As your need of help for NI Traktor I can’t help you cause of the fact that as little as I used it, it left me with the worst impressions so my subconscious push the memories of setting my controllers out of my brain šŸ™‚ The worst GUI ever!!!
And even though I’m a Serato Dj user now I still remember a couple of things about Virtual Dj (I started using it back when it was Atomix Mp3 in 1997 or 1998 if I’m not mistaken.
    So about your setup…

1st check the connection from your Gemini controller to your 2.1 speakers! You are using a mini stereo jack to Stereo RCA Y cable, Yes? It seems to me at one of your pictures that the male mini jack needs to be pushed all the way in to the female on the Y cable but even so you should be able to listen to one of your 2 satellite speakers playing out some music!!! But give it a try anyway. Maybe even try to connect your speakers to another source just to check that the Y cable isn’t broken. A TV set or a DVD player a game console anything with AUDIO OUT RCA plugs!

2nd Your VDJ settings as it shows on your last picture are wrong! I think is version 7 you are using yes?
So go on Settings → Sound Setup and on the ā€œInputsā€ field you can choose 1 LINE if you want since you have an aux line input on your controller. On the ā€œOutputsā€ field you choose (If I’m not mistaken) HEADPHONES where it shows A set of headphones and a speaker and next to the field it should apear a line with ā€œMaster : Chan 1&2 / Headphones : Chan 3&4ā€. And finally on the ā€œSound cardā€ Field you should choose your controller by clicking the arrow on the right.
Now if you don’t see your controller in there that means that Gemini, unlike other brands that customize their ASIO Driver, gives a generic one so you choose the ASIO Driver again and you click on the ā€œASIO Configā€ button. Somewhere in the GUI of it you find the setting for the master channels and the headphone channels. They should read ā€œMaster : Chan 1&2 / Headphones : Chan 3&4ā€ if not then change them accordingly. There is also another option in there witch tells your controller/ASIO Driver if its going to decode WDM windows audio or ASIO Something…. My memory isn’t so clear on that unfortunately, but sourly you need to choose the ASIO Something ( Please don’t laugh )
    This should fix it !!!

Another option for you is to download ā€œASIO4ALLā€ which is a Universal ASIO Driver Install it and try to choose that in VDJ sound settings to find out if something went wrong with the Gemini Driver setup.
Or download a program called MIDI-OX and check that your controller sends midi signals to your PC or MAC when you turn the knobs or jogs or everything on it.

    Hope this Helped.

P.S. Sorry for the CAPS I’m not in anyway shouting it’s just that everything in caps is written this way on the hardware and in the software as well. I tried to make it easier.
