ModeratorGood question and a pity of course. Especially if you shelled out lots of bucks for a nice S8 only to be able to use it as a regular controller. You might want to put your question directly to the team at info@digitaldjtips.com.

ParticipantHi,
Can elaborate on this? Why is the issue that is causing NI to advise downgrading to 2.6.8? I’m using 2.10.0.13
Thanks!

ModeratorGood thing you are not the OP, Tom. Or I’d have locked the post.
Still, last warning here! Posting guidelines prohibited bumping of posts.

Participant@DJ Vintage: thanks, i’ll email them directly.
@Kenny & Tom;
I don’t think there’s one clear problem, but rather a number of Traktor users on Windows systems that have been experiencing stability issues. For a lot of people who are experiencing these types of problems (lag, crashes, glitches) version 2.6.8 seems to work better. From what I gather from NI-Support there doesn’t seem to be one general problem, and they have not been able to reproduce the mentioned problems inhouse and therefore haven’t really found a solution yet. When I contacted them they sent me a tool with which they can read logs on my computer about the crashes, and their solution was to downgrade. So; there apparently is no singular issue, but there is a standard workaround, which i really dislike.
The ‘forced’ part in the title is a little subjective, in retrospect; i feel forced to downgrade, because having the slightest idea that my system isn’t stable renders it effectively useless for gigs (I DON’T want anything to happen during a gig).

ParticipantHey Mark Has this been officially announced by Traktor? Just asking becuase it seems odd they’d recommend reverting that far back.
On the flipside maybe the people misheard or didn’t understand? Just doesn’t make sense.

ParticipantDear god, no!
Traktor would never officially announce such a thing in public (no software company ever would!)
However, the Native Instruments Support team recommended that I downgrade to version 2.6.8 (specifically). NI-support gives these advices on individual basis only, whenever users encounter problems that can’t be fixed with other known solutions. I got the advice after trying all other possible fixes, like the system optimization(https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/knowledge-base/show/3671/windows-78-tuning-tips-for-audio-processing/) and the check for corrupt audio files with MP3Val (https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/knowledge-base/show/988/traktor-crashes-caused-by-corrupt-audio-files).scanning Native-Instruments, and various Digital DJ forums and article comments I have read numerous suggestions to roll back, and version 2.6.8 was named various times. Version 2.6.8 appears to be known as a stable version, so it’s a sort of fail-safe, rather then a solution.
the reason I’m asking is to know whether I am just one unlucky guy, or if there is a whole bunch of people on the same boat. I don’t want to be that guy that creates a large fuss due to his own biases, but I do get the feeling there’s more people with the same issues. If the latter is the case, a collaborative appeal to look into this might help…

ModeratorWith DJ software becoming more and more complex AND operating systems going the same route, it isn’t really a miracle that the amount of inexplicable errors or undocumented features if you like would increase.
While new OSX versions are also no longer guaranteed trouble free (see earlier problems between Serato and El Capitan), it would be easier to reproduce and consequently fix on the Mac platform. After all, OSX really only runs on a hand full of machines, part of which have overlapping specs.
Windows machines on the other hand … a matrix of infinite possibilities and manufacturers are in this mix. Drivers seem to be a bigger problem on Windows than they are on a Mac as well. All in all, it’s higher grade solutions on higher grade hardware/OS combinations. A serious risk I guess.
While it’s human nature to want the newest and latest, I’d advise NOT to upgrade to a newer version until it has been in use for a couple of months at least. This gives room for problems to surface and be reported on the relevant forums and support pages.
Especially if your DJ Software is mission-critical (i.e. you are making money with it!), I’d only upgrade if the upgrade fixes a problem I was experiencing and/or if it has some features I really feel I can’t live without. Here too the old adagio “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” seems to hold true.

ParticipantI couldn’t upgrade my Traktor as I’m still using Snow Leopard which I find stable. I have to use stems etc on my Windows partition but have never used it yet.
Why are people being advised to downgrade? What problems have there been?
