Oh, I have been anywhere from comatose to manic side of manic/depressed when it comes to DJ-ing. It’s been work at times (I’ll go, but just because I took the job and it’s work) and it’s been unexpected gems (when a friend had a DJ setup at his anniversary with vinyl and I ended up playing a 90 minute set with the roof being on fire) and anything in between.

At the end of the day, it’s the love of music, linked to the desire to contribute to other people’s happiness by means of music that makes you DJ from a place of love for the art. There is nothing wrong with taking a break, especially if life has been on your case. And the good thing is, it’s not a decision unless your livelihood depends on it. You can keep your gear stored until the bug bites you again or your best mate asks you to play his garden party and you are suddenly back in the heat of things.

Nobody that says you have to denounce DJ-ing just because you hit a rough patch.

I’d say keep the love for music alive and keep spinning – when you feel like it!

Thanks Vintage, wasn’t sure if I was the only one with DJ-Depression! The love of music is most definitely still alive 🙂
