ParticipantWhy don’t you just make a sign that says something like: “Warning High voltage, keep your drinks away from the DJ booth!”? Dont just write it on a piece of paper but make it look nice so ot looks like a part of your setup/decoration but people still get the point.
Or you can always buy The Thunderdome X-MAS Edition from discogs for some classic Hardcore Christmas tunes!December 20, 2015 at 11:29 am #2325761DJ Vintage
ModeratorLike drunks will take the time to read or worse, process, such a sign?
Not gonna happen.
I am very quick off the bat when it comes to people approaching my gear with drinks. It’s a no-go zone. I’ll tell them to go put their drinks somewhere before coming back to talk to me.
I think you did the correct thing after politely explaining the situation, by threatening to shut down the party. It’s good to have a mic ready to explain while you kill the music (do it mid track for maximum effect) and how some people not behaving force you to stop performing. This will either bring about that (more senior?) colleagues of the guys will whisk them away or others in the crowd that don’t want the party to end now have a bone in this fight if they want the music to start back up again.
And no, I don’t think it’s an excessive thing to ask for at larger corporate parties to have some non-drinking staff at the scene to assist with intoxicated people interfering with your DJ-ing. Just me though.

ParticipantI agree with DJ Vintage…
I think you are absolutely right to kill the music. If nobody was prepared to step in & ‘escort’ the problem away, then everybody loses out!

ParticipantThanks for the replys guy’s, unfortunately there allways seems to be one or two tits at every event, sometimes it’s the drunk, sometimes it’s the one who bothers you all night with stupid request, it’s not for no reason that by allmost all clubs the Dj booth is out of reach of these people, but as most of will agreee as a mobile dj this is often not possible for us.
I did one time stop the music mid tune when a drunk was being a problem, I simply told him to go away or the show was over, there is no point in trying to get into conversation with a drunk person, after a few minutes of no music some other party guests came over to ask why the music had stopped, after explaining to them this drunk guy was asked to go away or the party was over, they very quicky made their feelings made to him, get lost! or we will remove you.
One thing I have learned is there does not seem to be an easy answer to stop them bothering you in the first place withount a non reachable booth or security, I would love to know if anyone else has a good idea or stories of there experiances, for the mean time I shall continue to use the method of stopping the music as this get’s the most attention from everyone who want’s to enjoy a good party.December 20, 2015 at 6:10 pm #2325921William Buttry

ModeratorI’ll second that this is one of the hardest parts of being a mobile DJ. Being inaccessible is not a real option, dealing with requests a fact of mobile DJ life. Much has been written here and over on the blog on how to deal with requests and everything.
Paraphrasing someone important: “you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.
Diplomacy is key, being polite – even when selling no to a request – goes a long way. But at some point you may have to revert to “strong-arming” and just cut the music, get on the mic and tell the crowd that you are not being allowed to rock the party because of one or two clowns not leaving you alone.

ParticipantIs there like a man in charge present? the one that make arrangement with you, contract and such ?
Since its a company party function, someone who’s in charge of the event should be present
Call him/her up and explain the situation at hand -
