ModeratorAs far as my information goes, the plan to rebuild Vestax was talked about, but any and all attempts to revitalize the company or even the brand name have been stopped.
So I guess that Vestax is truly gone forever (for now).

KeymasterYes the latest press release was that the talks with investors to pick up the brand (apparently Casio was interested) failed. Someone purchased the rest of the technical specs etc., but the company was closed.
The sale of the brand name also failed as no DJing company wanted it, which did not surprise as Numark already has Denon as a second brand, Pioneer does not need a second brand and all others are too small to buy it.December 3, 2015 at 4:13 am #2308511Joe Glenn
ParticipantI was told recently by a pioneer distributor that vextax was absorbed into pioneer or at least some of its technology… Which seemed believable considering the djm-s9 looks very familiar to a certain vestax flagship battle mixer

KeymasterAs I said, several technologies were sold, may be that Pioneer bought them, but could also be that Pioneer just uses the same supplier for that suspicious knobs you mention (as Vestax ordered most of that stuff of standard OEM suppliers, so you also found the same knobs and buttons on some reloop stuff).

ParticipantIs it just me or is this like a death of a movie star? The demise of Vestax just seems to be shrouded in mystery and speculation as to why and what happened a bit like Bruce Lee when he died. I think what makes it even stranger is that the company were producing high quality goods that were possibly unmatched in durability and function..a bit like Bruce Lee. To be honest even I feel a certain lament for the ending of this company and I am only a middle aged hobbie DJ.

KeymasterIndeed Vestax had some awesome gear, but they did make some decisions that were not applauded by the people.
For example the 380 was groundbreaking, but due to only having 2 channels it did not see great sales.
While the 400 was revolutionary again, as it did try to cater to any DJ software, most people said it had no sense of direction and was too complicated because of it. Also it had Firmware problems at start.
Some of their cheaper products were clearly just OEM stuff that you could get cheaper without the name tag and while their turntables were excellent, turntable sales are not stellar among DJs… then they tried to make HiFi stuff for audiophiles or something and all that side projects…
So there is no real mystery, it was a clear lack of direction of the company. This happens to a lot of innovators. Their fast pace of “we can do this too and be revolutionary” is getting in their way. This is why the best companies that actually do this and succeed have a very strong leading person (much like Steve Jobs did with Apple).December 7, 2015 at 9:19 am #2310351Todd Oddity
ParticipantYa, I loved my 400 and the “program it however you want to use it” mentality of the kit, but I can see how that kind of a blank slate scared a lot of people away. I knew the kind of work flow I wanted and was able to set it up accordingly, but anyone new to the business wouldn’t have known where to start – I mean it didn’t even have a marked play button! lol
I had to retire it with them going under though. Too bad – they were working on a firmware patch to give us control over the colours of the LEDs. Their customer service was really enthusiastic about the idea and it would have made the unit even cooler looking!
I’m just glad inMusic didn’t kill off the Denon brand or I would have lost the only two DJ manufacturers I ever buy from! lol
