Everybody knows James Brown, less known are the real brilliant musicians by his side:
namely Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis (also known as JB Horns). These gentlemen knew how to rock the house:

    Ok, another one:
Rare Earth was the only white Band signed by Motown which had some big hits.
One of their hits was a must play at every party in the 70s, the live version of their cover of the Tempations song Get Ready

Here’s one I always bounce to:

    Title: Playing with Knives
    Artist: Bizarre Inc
    Label: Vinyl Solution

    Genre(s): House, Acid, Rave Techno
    Year Released: 1991

When you hear that opening piano rift, you’re just hooked. I know I was the moment I heard this tune back when I was just finishing high school. As the world moved from house music to rave techno, Bizarre Inc masterfully managed to appeal to both sides of the coin. They had a hit pumping all over Top 40 radio and MTV (I’m Gonna Get You Baby), but also created some of rave’s more seminal anthems.

Out of all their releases, Playing with Knives will forever be my favorite, and I’ll drop it even on top of modern music.

Digging into the classic trance for number two:

    Title: La (Moonman’s Flashover Mix)
    Artist: Marc Et Claude
Labels: Go For It / Orbit / Positiva

    Genre(s): Trance
    Year Released: 1997

I’ll never forget when I first heard this tune. It was at Crobar Nightclub in Chicago, where DJs Psychobitch and Teri Bristol were pumping Saturday nights as a mesh of techno, dark house, and the rising sounds of trance. Amid all the more beat-driven darkness, this sudden oasis of light just hit me, and I was taken to the point I ran to Gramaphone Records the next day to buy a copy.

I’d pump it at home in my room alone, just because the sound, the bassline, and those synths were incredible at the time. Most trance at that time tried to copy the sound Faithless ignited with their hit Insomnia. La more or less showed us all what was to come, and it’s still a coveted tune in my collection.

The technical talent behind this tune was the duo of Marc Romboy and Klaus Derichs, which I never knew until a year ago, as I thought Marc Et Claude was one person. What’s interesting is I remember the British magazines calling this sound “Hardbag” or “Handbag”, as opposed to trance.

    Hello Everyone!

I was playing at a local bar yesterday (regular audience 20-30 yo), dropped this gem and the place went nuts! 🙂 It is so much more rewarding for me seeing people getting crazy to true classics than casual pre-cooked bangers. Once that badass baseline kick in.. you know what to expect 🙂

Title: Make The World Go Round (Deep Dish Vocal)
    Artist: Sandy B
    Year: 1996
    Label: Champion
