Hey and welcome to the forums!

Excellent music knowledge you have there.
I would first make up my mind which software you want to use: Serato DJ, Pioneer Rekordbox DJ, Traktor or Cross are all valid choices, but it will hugely impact which controller you should get.
After you made up your mind about that, check out our free controller guide and review videos.

    Thanks for the reply Terry!!

I definitely want to use Traktor. I have read the free controller guides, (awesome help). The only thing making me hesitate with the S8 is the lack of jogwheels to scratch. (something I didn’t really get into using vinyl).
However, I am thinking it is a possibility to use a dvs system just by plugging in a borrowed pioneer cdj. Or maybe use something like the Dennon SC2000 as an extra. Is this possible?

‘Digital DJ tips’ has been really helpful to me so thanks a lot guys!!!!

Most CDJs (Pioneer or not) will not work good with the S8.
And for reference if you really want to scratch, then Traktor is prolly the worst software for it unless you know how to finetune it (of course can be done very effectively, it is just not what Traktor caters to).

    Hi Terry_42,

    Cheers for replying!

Scratching is not my main priority, but would be fun to give it a try and maybe add another string to my bow.
I’ve seen a couple of posts which may solve my problem:

    Adding jogwheels to Kontrol S8

    KONTROL S8 SCRATCH + DNS3900

I like the idea of the Dennon SC2000 cos they are fairly cheap, (I’ve seen 1 for £139). Anyone had experience using 1 with S8?

The SC2000 is effectively one player of the MC6000 (same jogs as 3000 and MC2000). Same buttons, jogwheels, indestructible quality. For scratching, I CAN imagine they are on the smallish side. But they have great grip are solid as a rock with no “give” whatsover and feel like you could press them like a Sumo wrestler.

Our scratching course tutor Steve is pretty enthusiastic about these jogs actually. So his seal of approval should be good enough for anybody.

But I haven’t done Traktor since I happily got rid of it over 2 1/2 years ago and have no interest in using the S8. So can’t help you there.
