I use a pair of JBL LSR305 for my studio and have been very happy. You can hear the bass, but it isn’t out of whack with everything else. They play a tad on the warm side, so not totally neutral for referencing, but a lot closer than the KRKs which I surprisingly hated.

Of course, room acoustics will produce totally different results for different people. And personal taste makes a huge difference too.

I use the Yorkville YSM 5 active monitors. they are very clear, not too bassy, can crank it up in a small space, and are very reasonably priced. But, everyone’s ear is different, but I would definitely give them a listen.

I’ve got a pair of PreSonus Eris E8s that have a nice clean flat sound to them. They also have some accosting tuning features built in which can help you to customize the sound some. I bought them mainly because I was looking for a pair of dedicated monitors to replace my HiFi setup in my office / studio, and because I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a pair of monitors. I got the E8s for around less than $350 for the pair on eBay direct from PreSonus. They also carry a 4.5 and a 5 inch driver if you want something a little smaller. I went with the 8″ because my office has 15′ ceilings and I wanted to be sure I could fill the room with sound. I’ve had them for over 6 months now and couldn’t be happier. If you can find them at a local store give them a go and let me know what you think.

Thanks for the the replies. I mix in my bedroom as its furthest away from my neighbours, the room is 12 x 14 ft and 8ft high. Have had a few in mind and have been reading quite a lot of reviewa. Starting to narrow it down now. Between Mackie mr5’s , JBL LSR305 and the 1’s are im favouring which are the presonus eris er5’s.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    Bob
