The mixtrack is a solid controller and it does perform OK. I have seen it used live several times.
What the mixtrack is missing is on board gain controlls and real performance pads for slicer, loop rolls etc.
And of course balanced outputs. So yes other controllers will give you more options.

I would NOT go for Vestax. Yes they were good controllers, but the company is out of business and there are no updates available. So if you get one with the wrong firmware, there is no way to update the controller and you are stuck with a non working equipment.

If you really want to upgrade and like Serato (like me), then I would check out:
    – reloop Terminal Mix 8
    – Numark NV
    – Pioneer DDJ SX or SX 2
    – Denon MC6000 Mk II

These are all top performance Serato controllers and a huge step forward over the Mixtrack or the Twitch.

I agree with Terry on all accounts if you are going to go with a Serato controller. I have both the DDJ-SX2 ad The MC6000 MKII. I I will say however, depending on where you are playing, especially if in a club setting, space may be an issue with the SX2 if you are trying to cram into a booth with other gear. I think the Numark NV has a similar footprint to the SSX2 as well.

Yes the NV is quite big too. Actually a little more depth and slightly narrower, but still a big footprint.

Just a thought that is related, but slightly off-topic: be taken seriously for what you do with gear, not for the gear you have!

Guys like Terry and quite a few others can blow the roof off a room with two teacups and a couple of spoons hooked up to a PA. Not literally, but they can make work whatever gear is available. And they don’t care what other people (primarily other DJs, cause the crowd is blissfully ignorant about DJ gear so they don’t care at all) think about the gear they bring.

Your gear should fit your workflow and software and your budget. That is all that matters. Don’t let the fact that others MIGHT laugh (they are ignorant btw) because of the equipment you bring in, be a factor.

Let me give you a simple example. I think there is no doubt that those ignorant DJs will take you very seriously if you were to work with 2x CDJ-2000NXS and DJM-900NXS, right? By the way, those guys probably don’t OWN anything, let alone a club setup. Now, I know for a fact that Terry asks for EXTRA money, if they make him play on that setup rather than allowing him to bring his controller. Sounds like the world upside down right? Only 5 years ago that setup would be on the rider of every DJ. I will come play, but I need that setup there. Make it so!

Today, even the simplest of controllers can be made (in the hands of DJs that know their stuff) to do MORE than you can with a 5k-costing club setup!

Hope that helps focus your needs and desires. You should upgrade from the Mixtrack when you feel you are starting to miss features that you want to use. Again, not because of what other people think.
