It certainly looks slick. I like the interface.

Honestly: It looks like Serato with added pad skins.

    Hope they went with mixvibes…

100% sure they didn’t go with Mixvibes, they just left them when version 3.x came out.

that’s a pity.. i’d love them to become a big player. Good reliable software, and always nice to have more competition. Also one of the best pieces of software for value for money.

I’m sure licensing Serato is more expensive for them than MixVibes… but with the current synergy between the 2 brands… I guess so.

I can’t agree with you more and am a happy Cross user in my third year now (going 4 shortly I think).

However, and I actually posted this on their forum the other day, they seem to miss out on two things, imho:

    1) Their marketing sucks. Period. They are never at any tradeshow (been to a few and checked for myself), I hardly ever see any kind of endorsement or advertising, no big(gish) DJ names have been snared, they have a meager website at best, the only hardware that gets sold with Cross included is supermarketgrade 55 dollar stuff and none of the serious hardware brands seem to acknowledge them, let alone toss an LE/Intro/Light version of Cross into their offering (which would be so easy to do).

    2) They should be way more pro-active in making sure that new controllers from the major brands have a Cross mapping as soon as possible. Now they say they can’t spare the development power. It is more likely an question of not being able to get (pre)production models in soon enough (or only by actually buying them) to do that. So if you happen to own a controller not supported, you are stuck with the forum. And while there are some excellent people with lots of mapping knowledge there, they can’t do it all.

So, yes, the software is definitely worth a place in the Big 4 as opposed to the current Big 3 based on it’s merits, price/quality ratio and features, but unfortunately not based on the way they promote themselves.

Well, Serato at one point clearly wanted to go from very closed (like Traktor is now) to very open, without letting go of their “supported” hardware style of operating. In order to make that work, you HAVE to have Pioneer on board. And lo and behold suddenly we see an influx of Serato-supporting Pioneer controllers a few years back.

We’ll never know what kind of deal has been hammered out. Pioneer did not just come up with this strategic growth path yesterday. I may very well have been in the making at the time they dealt with Serato.

I guess we’ll never know the details, but that Serato integration might not be as troublesome or expensive as you might think LOL.
