Actually Traktor cannot do what you have on the list.

Serato and Mixvibes Cross can do it, so those are your only 2 software choices.

As for F/X send/return almost no controller has this, but you can always do a post master F/X. However with the F/X packs of Serato I hardly see why anyone would want anything more as all the effects you can find in any external mixer/F/X box I know are there.

As for the other things I would look into the following controllers and see if they tick your interest: reloop Terminal Mix 8, Pioneer DDJ-SX, Numark NV, Numarks NS7 III.

Frankly, u can’t get all that features under $300….. The cheapest option i think would be a Beatmix 4 with a Reloop Neon…. But even that would cost $500 and won’t give u all the features u need….. Or else, if u wanna keep ur setup minimal, the Reloop TM8 or Numark NV would be a good bet at aound $700.

Just remember – u get what u pay for.

Thanks. Terry_42 your comments were helpful in narrowing the controller down a bit. I really like the look of the Pioneer DDJ-SX actually.

And as far as spending less than $300, I think I’m weighing between getting something right now that does MOST of what I want, or limping along with my VCI-100 for a bit and getting what I really want once I’ve got the money. Hard decisions. 😉

    Software:

Terry forgot to throw Virtual into the mix – it would also meet your needs for features, and has the added perk of being compatible with almost every piece of hardware out there. It also has powerful mapping options allowing you to map out buttons on whatever controller you choose to other features.

As others have said, you aren’t going to get close to what you need with the budget you’re talking about. If you don’t want to blow the bank right now on some bigger gear, you could get yourself some button boxes to add to your current setup.

    As for what Oddity said:
No I did not forget VDJ. But in my experience the beatgrid and F/X do not work the way he has it on his list. While the beatgrid is more flexible than Traktor (which is totally static) to get a 70s disco song gridded nicely is a pain in the ass as you have to set the flexible scales yourself in VDJ. Serato and Cross do this for you. You set one beatmarker and the basic BPM and it will do the rest for you.
As for F/X yes VDJ has become better but it cannot hold up to the Serato effects in any way (only Traktor can actually) in terms of quality.

I am sorry to say but so far I am underwhelmed with the new VDJ.

And we ARE talking about the SX2 right? Another option WOULD be to get a used SX. Apart from a few minor details (like DVS support, full RGB pads and Serato Flip support – not sure if/how that can be mapped to a regular SX though), it’s as good as the SX2 and you can probably snag one from somebody who upgraded to the SX2 or bought an SX as a starter and figured out after 3 months that DJ-ing wasn’t for him/her.
