Since it has (tiny and virtually useless) displays and you can use one-knob searching (instead of utilizing a full keyboard), you can indeed use it as somewhat of a CDJ-like experience.
Mind you, even CDJ users don’t use CDs anymore, but USB-sticks with RekordBox prepared tracks, something Pioneer only and thus not supported by Numark (unless I have missed an exit somewhere).
Why anyone with a good controller would want to waste his/her time getting experience with obsolete technology is beyond me though.
And if you are not gonna use the CDs or the stand-alone USB option, why spend money on a device that has those features, rather than on a device where the money has NOT gone into those bits and pieces but into something worthwhile.
If you feel a laptop is too much, consider going the route of a good controller for iPad use.
