    What’s your budget?

I would also suggest using the search function as this has come up a few times over the last couple of months 🙂

I was thinking anywhere from $50-$80. I have a set of Aiwa stereo speakers from an old stereo I no longer have, but after looking at them, they don’t have the 1/8 jack I need to fit into my laptop.

I guess I should also add that my controller doesn’t have a soundcard in it. It’s an original Numark Mixtrack and only has a USB plug which goes into the back of my laptop.

So you need a soundcard for starters (a good one being priced such that you might consider selling your MT and getting a used MT Pro or Pro 2). Second, the Aiwa’s would need an amp, as would any pair of passive (PA) speakers.

To get anything near decent, I’d seriously consider upgrading my controller to one with a sound card first, the sound card in a laptop most likely will below par, especially with sound coming out of a mini-jack connector.

Then your best bet would be to go for active speakers, with the amplifiers built-in.

It’s impossible to get anything in the price range of 50-80 a piece. Even the lowest of the low at amazon (and we seriously advice against getting those) will go over 125-150 each.

The only proper advice to give you is to start looking for some used active PA speakers in the 8″ or 10″ range. Be sure to listen carefully (crank up the volume for the test too) before buying. You might be able to find something in the price range of 50-80 a piece.
