I would have taken the residency despite what your agent says – if, as you say, there is no conflict then why not? As a new(ish) DJ, to be offered a residency would be awesome (As long as it was for your kind of music).

BUT if doing that second residency would mean that you might not be able to continue with the first then I would say pick the one that A) Will do the best for your reputation – IE Which bar is better known, which are you more likely to land more gigs from etc. or B) Will pay more (if you are bothered about that..)

However, if your agent has instead got you a gig at a smaller bar – maybe he just wanted that other gig for himself? Maybe he is jealous?

Whatever it may be, he has not acted in your best interests if you were offered a residency at a bigger bar and he instead got you one at a smaller bar which has now decided to close..

Have a check to see if they still want you at the bigger one?

    Hope this helps,

Take it and go with you heart. Agents come and go anyways and they rely on you more than you on them.

There may be some “bar politics” at play here that you aren’t aware of. Around here most of the major bars & clubs are owned by a handful of people, and even though a venue may not be direct competition to another venue, if the owner of venue A hates the owner of venue B, nobody from A is allowed to work at B.

Or, it could be as simple as others have suggested and he doesn’t like that you are getting offers he isn’t.

Thank you all for the suggestions, it opens up my clogged thoughts quite a bit.
I’ve also talked to some veteran DJ in the local city as well, getting their perspectives, they pretty much laughed stating more or less the same. It seems like the human nature is the key factor here, I will need some time and make it happened smoothly. Perhaps, some guest appearances wouldn’t hurt.

The most funny part is, it’s not worth all these drama where are mostly underpaid here, I am doing it out of passion and second career.

    Thanks again guys 🙂
