the tm8 cannot support dvs….. and no, there is no way around this. u could upgrade to the ddj-sx2…. it retails for 999 usd and u cud get it for a bit cheaper….. it has all the bells and whistles of the tm8 along with dvs support out of the box.

if u don’t use the performance pads, or cud do away with them, then u cud go for the denon mc6000 mk2. it is a stand-alone mixer, cheaper than the tm8…. it comes with the full version serato now and u can buy the dvs expansion pack….

these are the 2 options available to u if u wanna sell ur tm8 and upgrade to a dvs setup.

    just my 2 cents 😉

    Thanks for the reply!

That’s all I need to know thanks.

I will persist with the TM8 for now, it does everything I need it to do except offer up the DVS expansion. Eventually I will have to upgrade to something better just like any other hobby!

I thought there might have been the chance that I could have connected the SL2 with turntables and TM8 to the laptop and started a complete remap in SERATO.

    Never mind..

    Thanks again ?

If you want to use a DVS setup (Digital Vinyl System) with Serato, you will be absolutely fine if you use an SL2/3 as an audio interface instead of the one in the TM8.

To do this, simply connect both to your laptop and set serato to use the SL2/3 instead of the TM8 for the DVS, and you should then also be able to send audio out through the TM8, meaning that you wouldn’t lose any functionality of that unit.. 🙂

I’m not a Serato expert (That’ll be Terry_42 on here..) but that should work fine – its getting the audio out again through the TM8 that might be tricky. It will definitely work though – despite what DJ Spars has said.. 🙂

bob is right, that indeed does work.
However I have also to say:
DVS is very expensive. Not because of the sound card or decks, because of the upkeep.
Expect at least 80-100 bucks per month to spend on needles, heads, control vinyl,…

So whatever you try to accomplish, think first if it is not much easier to do on a controller anyways.
See me for example, I relied very long on scratching on vinyl until I got the Terminal Mix and actually I can now easily do any scratches I want on the controller.
Check out our Scratching for controller DJs course if that interests you, it is money well spend and will prevent you to blow loads of money on record decks and gear (that now rests in my basement or I sold off on eBay.)

    Thanks Bob & Terry,

In the back of my mind I knew it could be done!
I used to scratch with a line fader using my right hand on the turntable all them years ago (had no cross fader curve adjustment). And now I’m trying to scratch with the cross fader with my right hand and a smaller ‘none moving’ platter on my left because it feels more comfortable! It’s a massive learning curve for me hence the want for some familiarity of a turntable.

But! You’ve convinced me (for now anyway) to persist with the TM8 as it does have everything I need, I just need to be patient.

I might concentrate my funds towards a mac book pro instead, my laptop is okay but MBP would be better.

    Thanks for your help gents.

    Regards

    Myk
