First of all I think it’s been around way over a year. Second, you won’t know about the mk2 until it’s released. Pioneer won’t shoot their own SB sales in the foot by spreading rumors about a mk2 coming up.

Third, and most important, what is it you think the SB can’t give you that you expect the mk2 to have?

That does makes sense. Nothing really in the way of features, was just thinking a newer model was due soon. As im not in a rush to buy one, I thought I might just wait for the upgraded model. Thanks for the reply.

I agree that from a company point of view it wouldn’t be wise but on the other hand, while searching for controller, I noticed that the SB is out of stock in most places here (Belgium) and only the blue edition seems to be in stock.

This might be an indication of a new product launch coming up. Of course, it’s not because mark II is released that the previous version stops working all of the sudden. However, on the other hand, it could be possible that new iteration has for instance gain controls / VU meters and is 75 USD/Euro more expensive than the current SB. In that case, it would be worth (for me) to upgrade to the mark II.

Or turning it around, I’d feel “bad” if I buy the SB now, only to find out a mark II is released within a few months which has the above listed additions.

Frankly, if you are worried about features you feel you want/need not being on the current iteration of the controller you are looking at and the SB being a starter controller, you might seriously consider getting a higher end but used controller. Like an MC3000 or a used SR. They have all the things you think MIGHT be part of a new SB but are much better in all respects.

As opposed to club gear (think 3 times before buying CDJs that were in clubs), controllers often never came out of the bedroom. One of the reasons this gear is for sale is often people bought them, played around with them and realized it’s like any thing else, you have to put time and effort into it and nobody will offer your 50k to fly in a jet to Ibiza to play just because you bought a controller and played with it for a few months. So while you have to look closely and do hands on and demonstration of the unit fully functioning, you can pick up jewels for a lot less than new price and very close to the new price of a lower level model.
