If I understand correctly, Serato checks for a supported controller present, if there is one, you can use it. It does not link the version of the software to the controller you got it with I think.

So it should work the way you want it to.

The We-go ships with Serato DJ Intro. It is Serato DJ Upgrade Ready meaning you would have to purchase a license for the controller in order to use Serato DJ.

You should be absolutely fine – you have a full Serato license from the Terminal Mix 8 – that install should not care what hardware is plugged in, as long as it is serato compatible hardware 🙂

That article suggests that (for reasons I can’t work out), you would need another license if you wanted to use an “Upgrade Ready” controller on a version on Serato that came with a “Serato Enabled” controller.

If this is the case (you won’t actually know for sure until you try it, I think), that is frankly ridiculous. It effectively means that a lot of the advantages of getting a controller which supports (and comes with) Serato are useless…

I can’t quite get my head around how much of a rip-off that is – it is bad enough that it won’t work without specific hardware connected – but for your license to stop working if you swap controller? That’s ridiculous.

I think I’ve got the answer – I can use it with both, but I have to deactivate it and reactivate it each time I move to the other controller, which kind of sucks but better than nothing.

    Thanks for the help guys!

You are welcome … but … uhm … why not take the TM8 to gigs?

Indeed, get a nice backpack the TM8 is easy to carry on your back. I have cables, laptop, TM8 and everything in there…

The gig that day was at my uni, and the TM8 seemed too big. My WeGo fits in my current backback perfectly, but if there are any standouts for a backpack I’d love to know?

I had an UDG until my dog ate it 🙂 so apparently it is not dog attack ready, but protected the TM8 very well. Looking into replacing that one now and I might go with a Magma.

Cheers Terry, will keep that in mind 😛
Please let me know how that goes!

Received the Magma XXL and it works nicely. Can throw cables, laptop and everything in there. Really good backpack.
