ModeratorIt’s not a set-up I recommend. The output from the controller is normally not loud enough to produce any kind of decent volume out of a non-amped computer speaker. More likely it will produce no sound at all.
You are not telling us what way the primary hookup from laptop to the computer speakers. USB, 3.5mm?
If budget is an issue, which I am guessing it is, the minimum requirement would be speakers with some kind of amp in them.
You have to make sure that Serato is set to play it’s master output through the controller and not through your computer’s sound card to make it work at all.

ParticipantI suspect that the speakers will have an amp – but it is built into them rather than being separate.
Where I think you are going wrong is where you are pluggint hings in – you say that you are plugging the headphone output of your speakers into the RCA outs on the Mixtrack?
That will never work – try plugging the output from your Mixtrack into an input on your speakers..?
Unless of course what you are calling a “Headphone Jack” is actually the input, in which case you are doing that bit right.
In serato – is it set to use the correct soundcard? (have you installed the drivers for the soundcard in the Mixtrack?) Is the master volume on your controller turned up?
Hope some of this helps,

ParticipantThe speakers hook up to the laptop via a normal 3.5mm headphone jack.
And Bob, no I’m not plugging the speaker output into the back of the MP2. The speaker output is going into the laptops headphone port. What I’m trying to do is hook an RCA cable from the MP2 into the speakers, which only has a headphone jack.

ParticipantSO the speakers have a flying lead which you then use to plug into your laptop? And you want to plug something into that? Is this therefore what you need?
Ignore the price – they are solid. I own 4 of them… 🙂

ModeratorI think we all missed a turn here. The OP seems to run a cable from his MTP OUTPUT to an headphone socket on his speakers, also an OUTPUT! Clearly, connecting an output to an output is not gonna work.
You could, probably, work some totally messed up routing as sending your master output with the RCA (output MTP) to 3.5mm jack cable into the MIC input from the laptop and then somehow routing the mic input sound to the computer speakers.
I am gonna guess this will introduce a bunch of latency as well, making it impossible to do tight beat mixes.
To conclude: to get the master output from the controller to play over speakers, you need an INPUT on the speakers.
You can try unplugging the lead from the computer to the speakers and replace it with the RCA to mini-jack from the controller, but as I said in my first reply you will get no or very little volume out of your speakers.
I’d say raid the piggy bank and buy something like this: http://www.bax-shop.nl/geluid/alesis-elevate-3-actieve-monitor-set
Nowhere near high quality or room-shaking volume, but infinitely better than your current speakers and at 90 bucks a pair, that should be a doable investment. And if it isn’t, it might be time to rethink your strategy, practice DJ-ing with just your headphones for a while, while saving up for a pair of speakers.

Participantlol Vintage.. I mentioned that earlier on and he said that wasn’t the case.. 😉
I reckon that the speakers (BTW do you have a link or a model number for them – it would help us know exactly what are talking about) have a flying cable, like ones I have used do, which is then plugged into the laptop. I also reckon that they have an amp, but it’s built in and therefore (as he can’t see it), he’s assuming it doesn’t have one.. I have never heard of speakers without an amp intended for desktop use..
On a different note, also an option: http://www.amazon.co.uk/M-Audio-Studiophile-Speakers-Composing-Recording/dp/B0051WAM64

ParticipantThanks for the speaker suggestions everyone! I think my best bet IS going to just “raid the piggy bank” and grab a pair of decent speakers to practice on rather than trying to MacGyver something with what I’ve got and have a subpar setup. Thanks for the help!
