Hit the record (rec) button in Traktor? Somewhere at the top middle section (where battery life indicator and such are – on the right of that if I remember correctly)>

LOL yeah c’mon mate I tried that one. I’m searching all over the net trying to find anything about the settings to send the mix to the computer. I think it’s a preferences setting that I need to change but it’s starting to do my head in. Has anyone here successfully recorded a live mix on Traktor Sratch pro 2 using Kontrol S8?

What you are saying is that the rec button in the software is not reacting? The thing with questions is, the more information you give the better your fellow readers can help.

If the question is “how do I record” with no additional info like “I tried the record button, but it’s greyed out” or “I can’t find the record button” or … well, you get my drift, then we’ll start with the most obvious answer, won’t we?

For the recording function to work on DJ software you do have to use internal mixer mode, as otherwise the master output is put together in your controller and not in your software. And the software won’t know how to record the master output. I don’t know the S8 well enough, but it being Traktor gear, I am assuming that using internal Traktor mixing mode is the default setting.

Alternatively, you can always tap the master output from your controller, things like the Reloop Tape:
    http://www.reloop.com/reloop-tape
and the new DJ Tech usb-stick recorder (see article Best Of The Rest at Frankfurt over on the blog) will allow you to record anything on any gear (so you could even use it when playing out on a regular CDJ/DJM club setup if you’d want.

yeah sorry homie, i guess the question could be read in many different contexts lol.

This is my setup on which I am trying to record a live mix.

S8 mixer – 2 Stanton ST150’s and 2 CDJ1000’s all going through the S8 into the mac via midi
When I hit record on Traktor it highlights and goes red and shows a count of either 8 / 16 or 32.

I will try it using the internal mixer mode now!

thanks for the link I will look into that for sure also. that will come in handy at the clubs for sure

Anyone following this here is what I have come across and fixed my problem that would have had me recording weeks ago.

I was using the wrong record button, there is a hidden one over on the right of the screen that is able to be viewed once you click the cassette logo around the “B” deck icon.

Im sure im must seem like an idiot but I have slowly learned that there are many many idiots like me that had this exact same problem.

LOL … in which case I tend to say “lousy design”.

Sounds like you were using the loop recorder instead of the mix recorder.
