The staff of this forum recommends the following controllers for beginners (in no particular order):
    – Numark Mixtrack Pro (whatever version 1 to 3)
    – reloop Beatmix series
    – Denon MC2000
    – Pioneer DDJ-SB

These are the only controllers at a low price that we recommend if you are serious about DJing.

    Hello,

For what reasons is the Hercules RMX2 not a good controller if you are serious about DJing?
This controller has the full software DJUCED 40, a Traktor/Virtual DJ LE version and XLR outputs (24 bit)?!

    Thanks for the effort!

It’s a combination of things, among the most important are things like build quality, quality of the faders and how long the buttons last.
Denon make excellent kit for the money, I’m a Denon user myself, but I also know a guy who plays regularly in bars and he still uses his old Numark Mixtrak Pro.
Any of those controllers Terry_42 listed will be solid first choices, but the Hercules probably won’t last anywhere as long as they will.

Just telling you the truth as I see it mate 🙂

    Hello,

I assume it is wise to purchase Serato DJ, for example with the Numark Mixtrack Pro? Because without the full software you’re missing important features like recording? But purchasing full software like Serato DJ, Virtual DJ or Traktor Pro costs around €100,- isnt’t it?

    Thanks for the effort!

Hi Dwayne, please create a new thread in the DJ Booth or DJ Software forum (not in both). We don’t want people to start asking questions in posts that are not relevant for that post.

@OP: Staz pretty much summed it up. While it is technically possible to use a Hercules controller they are consumer products, while the ones mentioned by Terry are prosumer. (Way) Better quality, more/better features (or better implementation) and usually better DJ software support. While you are free to play with DJuced of course, it’s not one of the main platforms out there. Integration between Traktor and non-Traktor hardware isn’t all that good and gonna get worse probably in the near future. So that’s no help.

If you want full software (it doesn’t come with any of the starter controllers), you might consider buying Mixvibes Cross. It’s pretty cheap @ 49 USD or so. It’s the software that I use (I have the more expensive version that includes DVS, Video and HID support – but that’s not something you’ll be needing the first couple of years I guess). For Serato you’ll be looking at 100 bucks or more and VDJ is even more expensive.

There are other ways to go about recording your mixes, so that in itself isn’t necessarily a reason to buy the full software. The intro version of Serato is actually ok when you are starting out, according to our readers, based on previous posts on the subject.

    @Roy

All the controllers we mentioned earlier come with Serato DJ Intro included. Some places you buy from will sell you an upgrade to the full Serato DJ software at a discount.

I bought the Denon MC2000 as my first controller and I’m SUPER happy about it. Go for that one!

I use the MC2000 too its a great piece of hardware. DDJ SB is nice but starting out you’ll probably want some longer pitchfaders to beatmatch with. Mixtracks are decent if you want to use auto gain. Can’t say much about the beatmix cause I don’t know much about reloop.
