    Hey Jonas,
I’m struggling to understand what you hope to get out of this setup. Why not get the S4Mk2 that actually not only has 4 decks but also more complete controls over Traktor? – When you go and sell your S2 this solution would maybe be at lower costs, just saying. Also, do you want to plug your headphones from one S2 to the other when cueing the tracks? …
I think I somewhere once saw that you can’t actually hook up two controller to one laptop and use both of them with one software. Maybe I’m wrong with that and I highly recommend you doublecheck this if you are really willing to do this kind of setup.

The use of an external FX-unit as the RMX-500 is one really screams after a mixer with a dedicated Send-Return-Loop which are actually not that cheap if you are willing to get something with proper sound- and buildquality. You could of course simply connect it to a mixers master-out but you are then sacrificing the possibility of hearing & checking the effect before the audience can. If that doesnt matter to you, something small with 2 channels would be enough for this setup. For example, a Pioneer DJM-250 would do its job. – But yet again, if you factor in the costs of a new DJM-250 and a new S2MK2 you could easily be near the price of a S4Mk2 … But in general a 4-channel mixer would be 2 channels too much, that you could of course use to plug your phone / ipod / etc in just in case something happens. This would add even another layer to this complex setup. Also have in mind if you are playing out you need to transport all that stuff if you want to use it all the time, and may it be personal preferences, but I really wouldn’t want to carry a laptop (+psu), 2 controllers, a RMX500, a 2ch/4ch mixer and all the cables to go with this madness, would you? 😀

    Hey Plazma!
Thanks for that quick reply. Actually, carrying heavy and big bags isn’t a problem for me due to the fact that I study architecture and am used to big plans and models for example.

NI asked me too if I don’t want the S4. I like it. It’s big, it gives me nearly all I want. Except one: I don’t like the fact that I have to switch between deck b and d pressing a knob. I prefer having all four jogwheel in front of me – meaning that I have everything I got on the Laptop analog. May be creepy (the NI service guy somehow didn’t understand that)..
Anyway I saw a picture of a dj using that set up and after a talk with NI I know for 100% that it works.
I would play with CDJ’s but as a student…well I guess the problem I clear

So you have 1 set pf stereo channels coming from each S2 and then a stereo return from the RMX500?? How is the audio fed into the RMX – IE from what..?

In terms of the S2’s – you need a mixer with 2 stereo channels to handle them. If you then put the RMX into the system, you will then need a 3rd stereo in OR an effects return channel (Such things exist on PA mixers – not sure about DJ mixers though..)

I would go with either a 4 channel DJ mixer and just have your backup plan plugged into the 4th channel or get a PA mixer with 3 stereo channels.. Which could allow for greater flexibility if you later on want to add mics to your setup.. Consider the Yamaha MG10 (v3) as a PA mixer option – I use it myself and love it. Lots of headroom and tons of features 🙂

So based on the fact that it’s easy to upgrade the set up, if I own an 4 channel mixer, which would you recommend ? Doesn’t need to be the best of best
