ParticipantI did the same as you had to sell my 1210’s, vinyl etc as my baby daughter had called dibs on the deck room! Bless her lol
Im just throwing a spanner in the works. You are coming from a mixtrack Pro do you think all the controllers listed, although new, are in the same bracket? All have intro versions of software.
If save up a bit more you could get second hand DDJ SR for £320 (gumtree) this opens up full serato and has easy recording
maybe a second hand tracktor krontol s2 is around 200 and an s4 is about 320.just an idea?

ParticipantHahaha another fallen soldier lol. C’est la vive!
As far as I know, all the controllers I’m looking at are entry level and of a similar price, I’m mostly comparing design and features. Software wise I’m not worried as I have the full version of Serato 🙂 so I’ve already been recording mixes on the Mixtrack Pro.
Yeah! I’ve been ogling the DDJ SR it looks awesome. But… I’m in Glasgow and the nearest one I can find in Gumtree is 100+ miles away (Newcastle). I’m tempted to save up the money but I don’t know how much I can justify the cost or how much I need the additional features. Very tempting.

ParticipantFair enough if you got the software already then your making sense. I got decent money for my gear when i sold it so I spunked it all on new DDJ SX. Probably overkill, but happy as larry with it though and learning new stuff i can do all the time and had it over a year. I don’t really miss the vinyl at all.

ModeratorHi, Gemini is not my first choice (it’s actually my last, better yet, I’d never buy one LOL – but that is just me. The quality of both product and the surrounding support system is just not there for me).
The new MTP 3 is a good choice. As are the DDJ-SB (no gain knobs though), the MC2000 (no real performance pads) or the Reloop Beatmix 2. The MTP3 is the best choice if you like long pitch faders. It comes at a price as the unit is a bit bigger than the other ones.
I don’t support you statement about Pioneer gear. They have crafted their name as the default setup in clubs/venues, but I can safely say that is because of marketing more than actual technical gear quality (the Denon is a lot sturdier for example). Their controllers are good, but by no measure significantly better than most (and not as good as some others as said). And you do pay for the name still. Which is money that goes to nothing but the logo.

KeymasterHonestly coming from vinyl I would only buy a reloop controller. Their jogwheels are low profile and actually let you do things you can do on vinyl much more easy than other controllers.

ParticipantDJ Vintage, thanks for the feedback re: Gemini. Be sad to strike it off the list.
Disappointed with the lack of gain nobs on the DDJ-SB but I’ve adjusted most of my tracks in Serato which I think saves the gain level into the MP3 file, so hopefully I wont need to do that again.
The performance pads aren’t SUCH a big deal, although idea of having a sampler would be cool for dropping SFX on mixes.
Also I didn’t realise that Pioneer got where they are due to that. Good to know.
Terry_42 cool! I miss some of the hands on tricks etc I used to be able to do (I began DJing as a turntablist). At the same time, do you feel some of those things are better left to vinyl? After all, we have all the FX to play with no (I quite like using echo/delay to end a mix).

KeymasterI thought that I needed some vinyl and actually used DVS for some time.
However I got so used to the Terminal Mix (I had the 4 and now the 8) that I can say that 95% of what I was able to do on vinyl I can do on the Terminal Mix. And the missing 5% were so crazy that I actually only did that to show off anyways hehe (like record flip or jump the needle…)April 10, 2015 at 2:35 pm #2174641Skola One
ParticipantHaha yeah the first thing I looked at was Serato Scratch Live but cost and sheer volume of kit compared to the simplicity of a laptop + controller was just too much.
Having a look at the reloop controllers they look very solid, and seem to include all the things im after (good jogs, long throw pitch fader, gains, VU leds etc. Seems like a strong candidate. Cheers
