Hi Andy, short answer … no.

    Longer answer follows.

even in traktor pro 2, beat grid is way off

That should read, ESPECIALLY in Traktor. TP2 has THE singular worst beatgridding engine of any DJ software out there when it comes to non-electronic music. And no tools whatsoever to correct this manually in any serious way.

Serato and Mixvibes Cross do a far better job and have tools to make corrections.

Ableton let’s you do a pretty good job of straightening beats, but the result does take some of the “swing” out of a track.

If you plan on re-editing an old track and need consistent bpm throughout a track, Ableton is your best bet, imho. It might take some work though.

If you just want beat-tight intro/outro for mixing in or out of tracks, you can either do your magic in Ableton by setting the first 32 beats straight and the last 32. Or take an 8-beat bit that you can loop at the beginning or the end for transition purposes.

If you go the route of doing this in Ableton, beware that you need to cut the song up into three parts (intro/main/outro), then set the beats straight in the intro/outro and then stick everything back together. This is the only way to keep the original swing in the main part.

    Hope that helps.

Actually, it’s not the only way to keep the original swing in Ableton.

Load the track into Ableton and then extract the groove from it… then quantize your beats and re-apply the groove. You may have to trim the groove, but probably not.

    I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to, honest! 😉
