    It is not that unusual.
When a track is remastered and put into mp3 a lot of times when a track is remastered there are several levels of compression and enhancing EQing done to the track. Converting to mp3 also gives a little compression, which makes a lot of tunes have a little more “oomph”…

I wasn’t sure what value ‘remastered’ tracks were as I thought they had simply increased the volume (loudness wars) compared to the original release. But that’s great to know that they do carry out some positive tweaks also.

Another thing they try to achieve in compilation albums is try to get them all to sound “sort of” the same. The originals are all EQ-ed and mastered by different people. The compilation engineer will use some pretty high end tools to try to re-EQ them and re-compress them so they all sound more uniform if you like.

Sound strange… You do realise that most upload site convert your file to MP3 anyway for streaming?

The thing is Martin, unless you own the vinyl/CD, you have very little knowledge of the actually quality of the base track. And even if you own say the track on the artists CD, it may sound different from the exact same track that is mastered for a compilation album.

    Hi Martin

That’s exactly why I use Wav for tunes I want to use in an online mix. Its afterwards that I convert to MP3.
Sites which allow you to upload typically ask you to upload in MP3 or another lossy format.
Then they may compress that MP3 or whatever it is further !
Mixcloud for example who I’ve e-mailed about this say they convert your lossy file to 192 kbps MP3 !
So its best to use Wave files as the source files from the start.
