    You don’t.

Well, most people don’t. It’s a bit ridiculous too if you think about it. You take music made by someone else and mix it into something or another. This music is not yours to use for this purpose, unless you have express written permission to do so. And then you worry about people using your work?

If it is truly your own music (as in produced entirely from scratch by you) there are various ways of getting your rights protected, but this depends on the country you are in. And obviously, if you think you have something worth protecting, make sure it’s properly registered so your rights will always be recognized.

I didn’t know wether people would get a vocal of there name, or dj name added into the mix at random points,

    As one, this advertises yourself

And some other dj can’t pass it off as their own work, and try to get gigs using your mix tapes

Thank was more on the lines of what I meant,

    Thanks for the reply.

Ah, well you can of course inject some shout outs if you like. I personally never did this with my mixtapes, I wanted people to be able to listen to my mixes several times if they liked them without having my name pop up in the same place a few times every tape. But that is just me.

And as far as people getting gigs from your mixtapes, if it happens, they will sooooo fall flat on their face if they can’t reproduce what they sold. There will always be lazy and/or fraudulent people that will take advantage of other peoples hard work. Unfortunately the amount of stress, time and effort that goes into trying to prevent this from happening (like copy protection no system is ever watertight so trying is all you can do) is a waste of time, imho. Better to put that time and effort into your own improvement. So by the time someone uses your time, it’s already yesterday’s news.
