    Hey Manish,

Neither really. Besides they are totally different controllers.

    Good beginner controllers are:
    Pioneer DDJ-SB
Denon MC2000 (possible the MC4000, depending on your DJ style)
    Reloop Beatmix 2 (or 4)
    Numark Mixtrack Pro 3

As I have said on these forums before, starting with the question if controller X or Z is the best/better is the wrong way to start your selection process.

A better way to go about it, imho, is:
    1) Decide what kind of DJ you are/want to be and what workflow comes with that
    2) Find the software that best fits your workflow
    3) Set yourself a budget
    4) Make a shortlist of the controllers that best fit your workflow and budget (our Controller Buyers Guide is a good place to start with that process)
    5) Try to find the top two prospects to see and touch in a store if you can
    6) Make your decision

There is a lot you don’t know yet about your workflow, the kind of DJ-ing you will be doing, what you will like and what you don’t. So it’s better to start with a cheaper and slightly less intimidating controller, which will help you figure out what your NEXT controller really needs to be about.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi DJ Vintage,

Thanks for your concern. My genre is house music, especially Progressive house and Bigroom house. I know you want to suggest me a budget controller with limited effects on it for home practise. But i want a controller which is full equipped with effects. So that i will not have to change the controller after few months. I really liked the rekordbox function on this. Plus a brand name like pioneer. Still, i want your suggestion. I’m learning djing at a dj academy.. So pls tell me Will i face lot of problem while djing on this controller as a beginner??

Then go for the DDJ-SX it has tons more possibilities. Yes it does not support rekordbox, but rekordbox is just a glorified version of iTunes with CUE points, which both you will not need if working with the DDJ-SX.
The SX on the other hand will bring you full Serato DJ with Studio Quality effects, sample player, Serato Flip, Slicer, More hot cues, advanced beatgrid,…. and so much more.

So the SX is a pretty safe bet. Yes it might be overwhelming at start, but then you have a lot to grow into and it will last you a long time.

Sorry if this is blunt, but… If you’re studying DJing in a DJ academy… what do they teach you if you have no idea about the gear? Effects do not make one a better DJ.

All the controllers Vintage mentioned pack a whole lot more than, say, the XDJ-R1. I’ve played so many gigs with a Denon Mc2000, and there’s really nothing essential it misses. If you really like rekordbox, then why not just get a CDJ setup.

Like Vintage said: Get a entry level controller, see how things work out, and then you know what you will need next (if anything, really).

    Hi Tuomas helander,
I appreciate you for that. But i want to tell you that i have joined the academy only few days back.. And i didn’t ask them about dj gear yet. I have very limited knowledge about DJ Gear as of now. I really like the rekordbox. I’m not looking for CDJ’s, i’m looking for a controller for practicing at home and playing some gigs with it occasionally.. No hard feelings.. I will surely consider all your suggestions and will probably go for a beginner controller first..

if u r just starting out, try the ddj-sr.

it has all the bells and whistles like the sx only in a compact, usb-powered form-factor
