Not at all and actually beautifully said.
It was one of my nicest experiences in the last years when a client actually tracked me down through facebook and booked me for her wedding due to the fact that I was DJing the night “she fell in love”.

    It can be magical.

Lovely 🙂 It’s why I get so upset when I’m in a lovely place and the CD loops – it’s total lack of care for something spiritual, and it breaks the spell – a bit like the Matrix, now I come to think of it.

Yeah same here bro. Hey man, I was reading an older article on here where you mentioned disco. I started another thread on genre specific tips. Any disco tips? I love earth wind and fire and the bee gees (yeah I admit it!)

Yep, I date back to starting with DJ-ing in 1977. From Double Dutch Bus and Burn Rubber (GAP Band), Anita Ward and Chic and of course the days of Saturday Night Fever (but also stuff like Joe Jackson, Robert Palmer, 10CC, Ram Jam and Kiss).

While it’s not feasible or fair (gotta earn you badge baby!), I can give you some hints in the general direction. Some of the things I actually do myself still.

Find a few best 70s/80s disco/dance hits, listen to tracks that have the right vibe and that tickle your fancy in some way. Then go into the various sites (plenty around) and look for remixes from a later day and age. They will usually have a tighter beat (easier for our mixing work), an update feel and in many cases gained a few beats which allows it to sit better in today’s dance music climate.

Back in the day you started your warm-up with 105-110bpm, work up to average 120 and ended on a high note somewhere around 130-135. These days you can add at least 10bpm. Anything under 130 is slow these days. 120 is considered warm-up instead of mainstream 😀

    Hope that helps some.
