Hi Tom, first of all: Congratulations for the initiative of coming back.

Here we go: Very nice mixtape cover heheh I see you had some work on that to personalize it,awesome!
Did you scratch during the intro? I think so given the name of the track hehe, nicely done. What is your gear? I assume you’ve incorporated digital in your return or ?

Honestly i’m more of electro guy, but even then i was able to recognize some tunes, which is essential if you want to keep the crowd with you.
In the outro of Track Bass like Home you could match with the recognizable riff of White noise keeping the vocals remaining, it as particular good to me, sort of micro mashup feeling, it was so good!
The reggae part i had to skip because is against my religion hehe, kidding sorry, i just don’t like this kind of sound.
I went to (almost classic) Monument from royksoop, which i see is from your country and you obviously love as well hehehe.
Well, in general you have the guts to change genre and this is essential in live performances in order to keep (sometimes unstable) crowd along with you (I have some issues with that as well). However It didn’t work for me because i was expecting a steady increase of BPM along the mixtape and a dropping bass cliche hahah (but thats only me). Maybe a remix of the recognizable tunes i could digest easier.
Speaking about Technics i don’t know if you mixed in Key, but in anyway it seems flawless i couldnt pick up any key clashes so i guess it worked out pretty well.

Congratulations again for coming back, and hope you keep producing the mixtapes regularly. I’ve followed you on mixcloud.

Maybe you could comment in one of my mixes in order to get better? I’ve been djing for a year now, so im still a begginer and need inputs.

Ps: Thanks for naming the tracks, i see many djs dont do use the tool of the site.

    All the best to you
    Cheers

Thanks for your input, it’s really appreciated!

Yeah, I’ve crossed over to digital, playing around on a DDJ-SZ. But once I get some more space I will hook up my 1210’s too. Best of both worlds 🙂

One of the big advantages of digital to me is how easy it is to get the bpm and key of tracks. I check the keys to find candidates, but leave the rest to my ears.

The intro was done live with scratching, but it really took a lot(!) of takes to get it right. Lots of timing issues with samples, scratching and fx.

I get that multigenre isn’t for all. It’s just my style I guess. But maybe I should try some bass drops for effect. The mixtape I’m working on now is an old-old-old school mix with two turntables with music ca. 1980 (disco, funk, hip hop) roughly as it would have been played out back then, so no bass drops there I guess 😉

Will check out your mixes and come back to you with some thoughts. Again, thanks for taking the time!

Hey, Juliano. Had a listen to your vol5 mixtape. Some really good mixes – my favourites were into Hey Hey and into The Way We See The World. Really pro mixes. The two first tracks sound like they could mix well, but personally I would prefer to start the second track a bit further into the buildup to avoid losing energy.

You got me looking up some of the artists on youtube and spotify to hear more of them. And that must be one of the best seals of approval from one DJ to another! Looking forward to your next mix. Cheers!
