Hi and welcome to the forums.

Congratulations on your decision to get to where you want to be.

The best advice here is really: DO, DO and DO again, or as we say here Practice, Practice, Practice some more.

You made a good choice buying the course. It will certainly kickstart your practice regiment. It will tell you what to practice and how to practice it correctly. It will not substitute practice, it will only eliminate the trial and error of figuring the right way to do things. This will save you countless hours of practicing the WRONG way, hours you can now pour into practicing the RIGHT way 😀

Obviously spend time to build a nice track collection (don’t fall into the digital DJ nightmare of “let’s download any and all music I can find”) and get to know the tracks in your collection intimately.

Finally, once you feel you have mastered a certain level of technical fluency (i.e. you can manual beatmatch pretty decently, you know how to do at least a few different transitions, perhaps know how to apply FX here and there), it’s time to go OUT and play. The real art of DJ-ing is knowing what to play next. And knowing what comes next is a combination of skill, experience and reading your crowd. All those things can not be obtained in your bedroom practicing but only by playing out in front of real people.

Good luck on your journey and you are at the right place to ask specific questions or share experiences.

I agree with everything Chuck said, but would like to add particular emphasis to one point:

    Play out whenever you can.

Doesn’t matter where at first, just get in front of people. A reason I am adding to what Chuck already said for this is – this teaches you to roll with it.

When DJing in the bedroom, you make a mistake, you stop everything and start over. Even if you don’t, you are a lot less flustered in the bedroom than you are in front of people, even if it’s just your mates.

By playing in front of anyone who will let you, you’ll start to develop the ability to think on your toes, and this will help you immensely.

yeah totally! I just feel afraid of messing up in front of a crowd which every newbie has a fear of. But I’m totally excited to play my first crowd 🙂
