What is it you want the VUs to show? Master output level? In that case the VUs would be last in the chain. What’s your reason for having the iso’s in? So you can go balanced to the amp/speakers? Theoretically you could have the iso’s after the VUs.

Well it would be the master out. But thinking about it the couple of mixers I was looking at don’t have a vu meter for channels on either. So hopefully there is a a vu meter with 3 readings?

And an iso I woukdike to try them out was reading reviews about the omnitronic? Ones and for £150 seems quite cheap it’s only for home use.

I would prefer xlr rather than rca to the speakers of possible.

Interesting mix of old skool mixer and VUs and then modern active speakers. I’d expect at least a tube amp with that and some good old-fashioned folded horns or W-bins 🙂

Can’t help you much with the VU meters. I know there are LED meter kits available, but that might not be what you are looking for. You could use those and build your own VU meter (obviously if you are handy you could use analogue meters in the same fashion.

If you are staying in the home and not going TOO far with the speaker cable, you could probably get away with RCA cables (provided the speakers have rca in as well). It a rather cheap try as the cables aren’t too expensive.

Hmmm … isolators, what we would call EQ these days on any modern piece of DJ gear. I thought you ment something to isolate (ground lift) and/or change unbalanced to balanced.

I know the brand omnitronic and it’s not something I’d get near personally.

On a broader note, it sounds like you have an interesting little project going, but in all honesty it is as far away from Digital DJ-ing as you can get. As I am sure you have noticed the name of the site and forum :-), I think you can understand that unless some of our readers have actual experience with this stuff, you are not gonna get the answers you are looking for.

It’s a bit like going to the Tesla website and asking if anybody has sketches to build an old steam-driven car 😀

I have looked into a few things, but to further pursue this for me would mean investing some serious time which is not an option. I am leaving the topic open in case anybody else has something useful to contribute.

    Good luck with your project.

Thanks for your help so far.

Yes I know it’s not digital but ill be using traktor and normal vinyl with it.

all I want is an old fashioned vu meter with the dials (love the way they look) for channel 1 and 2 and a master output,

I’ll see how hard they are to make or if I can buy a kit.

Then in between the mixer and vu meter I want to and a isolator.

I’ll be getting some older speakers when money and the right ones come together with an amp, but the mean time it will be powered speakers, yes they have rca and xlr inputs.
