Hey, far be it from me to put down anything.

I miss the Mixvibes Cross option in your line-up, I’d personally suggest you take a look at it’s specs to see if it has anything to offer you might like.

For mobile DJs (imho) the Denon MC6000mk2 is the best option. Very compact, great mic handling (two channels of them with seperate volume, eq, ducking and delay). The only thing lacking are performance pads, you can only fit so much in a 19″ formfactor after all. That can easily be solved by adding (for example) a Reloop Neon or something.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for your reply Vintage,

I used to own the Denon MC3000 a year ago and in hindsight should never of sold it but I moved onto a different software and wasn’t planning on using it.. So I know how good the denon units are but I would really benefit from using those performance pads and I have looked at Cross and used it a few times it just doesn’t seem to do it for me as much as VDJ8 IMO.

As I want to be and am sort of a Club/Bar Jock it’s important an All-in-One unit has the desired Mic input thats decent, I see that most units in the last few years are coming away from equing the Mic and instead have a “Mic Tone” Knob in its place.. Would this make it better for Equing in a loud Bar or Club environment? The Reloop Terminal Mix 8 is the one I’m looking to get has this “Mic Tone” on it so would need to do more research on that before purchase..

Well, it wouldn’t work for me. I’d go nuts with a controller that didn’t have on/off for the mic. And the volume control on the front of the unit would also not work well for me. To top it off, the mic jack goes in the front, so bar using a 90 degree plug (not the most common), this will stick out (and probably end up poking your everytime you stand a bit close to the controller.

The terminal mix 8 is a great controller, my colleague Terry is super enthousiastic about it, but personally I would never buy it.

I think Denon made a good choice by not including (smaller) performance pads in an already somewhat crowded unit. The Reloop Neon option (for example) will give far more features than on-board pads would and you can easily stick that somewhere on a stand over your MC6000 for example.

I personally have very little interest in performance pads, the few samples I use I can trigger well enough with the available buttons on the Denon.

As with all DJ gear, this choice is HIGHLY personal. There is not best, not even a better. What works well for you, might not work for me and vice versa.

All I can share is my personal experience (had a mk1) and the reason I will, most likely, get a mk2 within too long (even having a DDJ-SX).

For performance pads, I find myself drawn to a Novation Launchpad Mini – that is likely to be the next bit of kit I pick up.

… and until I can afford to pick one up, I’ve written a quick hack for my iPad so it will act as one.

I’ve used VDJ 7 on a Denon 6000 Mk1 and now VDJ 8 on a Denon Mk 2. It’s a great controller/mixer and is perfect for me as I do mainly mobile work but it’s also compact enough to set up in a booth for other events. The Mk2 is easier to set up from scratch and is also designed to work with Serato as well as VDJ. I also like the fact that Denon allows me to plug in CDJ’s or turntables when I work with guest DJ’s. I can’t comment much on other software but VDJ 8 does everything I want,

If you’re looking at the DDJ-SX…it comes with the full version of Serato DJ

    Hi guys, UPDATE TIME!

I’ve bite the bullet and gone for a Pioneer SZ and will use either Vdj8 or Serato with it as both full versions come with the unit in the box 🙂

Thanks for all your suggestions and help 🙂
