Hey Todd, 37 DJ-ing here. Made several transitions over the years (Vinyl -> dual-deck CDs -> CDJs -> integrated dual deck players with digital media -> controllers) myself. Also primarily a mobile DJ these days, have done residencies in the very foggy past though.

Any particular questions, let’s hear them.

Hey DJ Vintage and Terry_42, thanks for replying.
Transition, that is what I am looking to do. I currently use CD’s and a laptop with a single player Win Amp. I carry 4 large CD cases, and a lot of equipment. It works great, and touch wood, has never let me down. I am looking to lighten the load a bit though, cut down on some set up time, and hopefully be able to set up on a smaller table. I am getting older, and lugging all of that stuff around gig after gig is getting old too. I don’t have a big need to do much scratching or anything too fancy.
I am a bit nervous to ditch my CD entire collection at gigs, and run totally digital until I get used to it, and feel comfortable without them. I have looked at a few things such as Mixdeck Quad, or the Denon MK6000 2 with a couple of CD / DVD players.
    Any thoughts or advice?
    Todd

    Hey Todd, clear mission statement.

Well, being a long-time mobile DJ, with lots of the same issues (getting older, hating to lug too much gear around), when I started with my first serious controller, I opted for the MC6000mk1 and never regretted it for a second. It’s great value for money and now the mk2 is out, giving you the Serato option as well (I ended up using Mixvibes Cross when I ditched Traktor that came with the mk1 but didn’t fit my mobile DJ workflow and Serato was not supported on the mk1).

I also have two CD-mediaplayers with me for backup (if laptop concks out) purposes and to be able to play USB-sticks (and the occassional CD) that guests might bring. I have smaller CD-case with me now (my previous CD-Players did not do USB), but I am gonna revert to having my backup collection on two USB-stick probably.

Here’s a quick pic (never mind the mess, I am cleaning out the office, there is stuff all over the place, lol). The small (Numark NPM100) speaker is usually my booth speaker and sits next to me on a mic stand, not in front of the booth as it sits now for practice. Great little 100W speaker with plenty of oomph for most situations.

Although currently on the DDJ-SZ, I am still looking to get met the MC6000mk2. More compact and better mic handling, imho.

The stand is available from RoadReady I think and at 170 euro the best purchase I ever made. Sets up in 30 seconds (less, frankly) has plenty of storage space and looks nice, tight and professional and puts your gear at the right working height (good for old backs).

I am not particularly fond of the units with CD-players in them as well, neither the Mixdeck Quad or the Pioneer equivalent, but that is a highly personal thing.

    Hope that helps.

Hey DJ Vintage thanks for replying.
This is exactly what I have been looking at 🙂
Nice looking set up, and back up after back up. I would not feel comfortable without lots of back up!!!
I personally like have the 2 seperate CD players instead of the Mixdeck, but it was getting a 5 star rating though, and does look like an all around cover your but piece of equipment.
I have looked at lots of controllers, and it just seems that the Denon (The working DJ’S Controller as they say) sounds like the best one for me. Lots of connections, 2 great Mic channels with EQ and some effects, and a loud headphone jack. I also like the looks of it, and it is available at a location near me.
Have you tryed any of the training video’s from this site?
    Any feedback you can share.

    Thanks again for your reply

LOL, as a moderator I am in the lucky circumstance that I get to try them all (easy if you have to answer questions about them here on the forum, rather than saying “I have no clue” LOL). And they are worth your while. The How To Digital DJ Fast course is a good, cost-effective way to find your way around digital gear quickly and provides a good starting point for practicing. The Master Class of course is great too, but might be for slightly further down the road, depending on how fast you feel comfortable with the digital DJ thing. The other courses are focussed on specific parts of DJ-ing so you can pick what area you think needs some extra attention. All worth your time and money, imho.

I will second, third and fourth the MC6000mk2 to a mobile DJ any day of the week, month, year, etx. I’ll admit to being the resident Denon afficionado on here, but this is truly a great piece of kit that will NOT let you down. Road ready, built-like a tank, everything you need and nothing that you really don’t. Comes with full Serato license now if I am not mistaken.
