    Well, I’m a fairly new DJ myself but have been playing and recording music for years. Based on research I’ve done, a lot of successful DJs also produce their own music so I think it definitely can help. I’d also recommend some of the online courses that Digital DJ Tips offers as they do talk about some production techniques which are relevant to DJing. If you were to take an overall music production class, while I think can still be helpful, might not be so relevant to the performing DJ.

    Well i have only recently started my journey of becoming a DJ/Producer, and im starting with production first (because its pretty dang fun to me) but i do not think it matters which half you start on or if you even do both. Most highly successful Djs produce there own music however.

    I asked this because in all honesty if I know I could make a decent living from just making music I would.

    Bar becoming a superstar producer/dj and getting rich or getting into that (still pretty small) 2nd ring of guys that can make a good living out of it, a life in music is usually mainly a labour of love with lots of odd hours and hard work for not a whole lot of money.

    I started DJing at 8 years old, and iI started production 1 year ago, I’m 16

    I was composing for about 30 years or so before I started DJing… however, when I started to learn to DJ, I was actually shocked by how much the information would have helped me to produce music that DJs would want to play. It is SO beneficial to know what makes a song attractive for an interesting mix.
