Quick question, have you been practicing manual beatmatching (using pitch bend keys)?

Yeah I have been. I have a couple mixes where I use that frequently. I didnt really start just using the sync button until later on but I do have manual down.

Are you on Traktor or Serato or VDJ or something else?

I’d tell you then to look at functions and buttons, as well as levels of durability.

In my book, “beginner” means a simple controller with the basics for DJing. “Intermediate” is when you have the controls to use the samplers, remix decks, etc…and you use them. “Pro level” are the $1000+ high end controllers.

I agree with D-Jam. Big playing field out there. 4-channel controllers do raise the financial bar a bit. A great value for money controller is the MC6000mk2, but it sucks as far as pads go. You could get a neon to go with it, but that would up the financials again.

Might want to look at the Reloop Beatmix 4 which at 299 euro makes for a nice price 4-channel controller. It might be just the in-between step you are looking for. Enough functionality to facilitate your growth for a while, but at a price point that you don’t have to feel too bad if you want to upgrade after 1 1/2 – 2 years (can still sell the old one of course). The Mixtrack Quad would be another contender at 230 Euro.
