Since Windows 10 again re-news the whole audio driver interface things…. I highly doubt it will function correctly.
As with other Windows releases I would think that it will take about 6-8 months after RELEASE of Win10 that it will be supported by the major DJ software titles. So this is still a very long way off. (With Windows 8 it took almost a year after golden master release until they worked correctly)

So I would highly vote against using pre-release software, especially if it comes from Microsoft as most of their releases need at least a month or 2 of patches to work correctly.

I would actually wait for the first servicepack to come out (usually 6 months to a year after the first RTM version) before upgrading my PC.

Especially for DJs, there is usually very little incentive to upgrade a machine that is working well and stable. I am still using Win7 on my laptop and don’t even want to contemplate having to go to Win8.

In general, for DJ-ing purposes, I would suggest “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!”.

The thing is, my machine needs to be factory reset. It is running nine Traktor and ableton well, but it is my everyday computer and it is laggy and very slow, i have everything backed up but it came with Windows 8, im on 8.1.microsort didn’t tell us we need the 8 recovery media to reset from 8.1. So I’m having to boot from an is file from digital river of Windows. I didn’t get a install disk, and it’s a pain in the ass. But, i think u guys are right, IL wait on it. But this recovery issue, is making life rather Unpleasant. I’m Almost an Apple fan now. And i believe apple is the apitomy of conformist America, but we won’t get in to that. I have an hp envy 15-j011dx. It is a great machine, but 2 years of daily data has taken its toll. Any ideas? Maybe someone could mail me some 8 recovery, lol. Thanks for the input, and i will honest give whoever can send me the solution, a copy of Traktor Pro 2. Hit me up on Facebook, Scott Watkins in Louisiana. Or sjwatkins27@gmail.com, put the subject as Windows blows. Thanks everyone.

    I feel your pain.
Actually I am still running a MacBook Pro from 2008 with Serato DJ and it still works nicely…

I’m with Vintage. I usually wait til Service Pack 1 to update…as I’m still on Windows 7.

I might try 10 on one of my machines to see how it operates, but my main DJ machine will stay 7 until I’m satisfied.

Scotty, when I’m in a mess like yours, I usually do a full hard drive reformat and installation of Windows. You can’t burn the ISO into a install disk?

You could try doing some maintenance on your current installation. run CCleaner and check on your start-up programs and uninstall any toolbars.

well, i did it, i went to the technical preview. ok, first, i would at this time recommend every windows user running traktor, please, just do it. i get better sound QUALITY, less RAM usage, less cpu meter spikes, less cpu usage, better latency, and the audio spikes that do occur are normally because of a network adapter, level out faster, not to mention the audio breakup is not as severe as 8.1. as far as the OS itself, love it. friendlier, smarter prettier faster, think the functionality of 8 with the reliability of 7. Nike said it best. just do it.

I would second running C-Cleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) – run the cleaner (check all the tick boxes as what you want ticked is quite personal – you won’t want all of them), run the registry cleaner (make a backup – it asks you if you want to!), then go to Tools -> Startup and disable anything you don’t want (do not disable anything where the publisher is Intel or Microsoft though! – Do disable all the auto-updaters for various bits of software you may have installed.)

Then I would uninstall anything you don’t currently use (and then re-run CCleaner).

Restart, then run CCleaner yet again.

Restart and your computer should be noticably faster…

HOWVEVER – the only real solution is to rebuild your laptop. If you play out, I would seriously not install Win 10 Preview (It is designed for geeky people to install so they can report bugs to microsoft) and it will stop working (without a license key) on July 29th. It will just stop as after that point, Microsoft would like you to pay (though you can upgrade your current license..)

Can confirm that both Traktor and Kontrol S2 (MK1) works in Windows 10. At first it didn’t so to anyone who has issues: Remember to open NI Service Center and download the latest Controller Editor update. After that, it worked like a charm running for hours without any issues.

With that said however, using the W10 Technical Preview is really hit or miss. I’ve had success on one computer, and complete failure on another (it literally bricked). If anyone dares to try it: Remember to back up -everything- because if something f*cks up, you’ll have no other option than to format and install a fresh copy. W10 is oficially released on july 29th so my best tip is to wait.

Yeah.. I’ll be waiting until end of September probably before I update from 8.1 – give them a chance to sort all those bugs out that they haven’t found yet.. 🙂

Actually, Windows 10 will come as a free update to those running Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1. Once you upgrade to Windows 10, it’s forever yours to keep as long as your computer or laptop is alive.

If you are running Windows 7 but not SP1, or Windows 8.0, you need to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1. They’re free as updates.

When Windows 10 arrives on July 29, 2015 as a free upgrade, you have the choice to immediately upgrade or upgrade at a later time on or before July 28, 2016. I intend to take advantage of the free upgrade before July 2016. I have to let Microsoft get through the bugs first and for Serato to be compatible with it first before I actually upgrade.
